Penguin Webquest

Introduction We have been learning all about penguins and other Arctic animals. During this WebQuest, you and your team will be researching a kind of penguin. Once you become an expert, you will teach the class all about your species!

Task Read and collect facts about your species of penguin using our internet links. Print and fill-in the factsheet telling about your penguin's height, weight, food, location, and enemies. Turn in your sheet to your teacher. Identify the parts of your penguin on an activity sheet you will print out. Locate on a map where your penguin lives. Be able to show the class. Print a penguin coloring page, write 3 amazing penguin facts and color it in. Hang on penguin bulletin board. Fill-in in class chart with height, weight, enemies and what you penguin species eats.

The Process You will be assigned a penguin to research. Print out and complete the penguin info factsheet. (see task page) Use the Internet links listed here to find information about your penguin to complete the worksheet. Penguin Planet Penguin info from SeaWorld Identify the parts of your penguin with help from the internet links. See task page to print the activity sheet you will need. Locate on a map where your penguin lives. Mark it on our class map. Be able to show the class. Complete your amazing fact page using factsheet and internet links. Color your penguin to look like your species. Practice telling your family what you learned and be ready to teach the class all about your penguin.

Evaluation The grade for this WebQuest will be based on completion of the penguin factsheet, the labeling activity sheet, and the 3 amazing facts. The rubric used to evaluate the report is: 3 2 1 Score Sentence length Wrote 7-9,10-12 word sentences using complete thoughts. Wrote 5 or 6, 6-9 word sentences. Wrote 3 or 4, 4-5 word sentences using complete thoughts. Vocabulary Uses interesting or complex vocabulary. Uses typical second grade vocabulary. Simplistic vocabulary i.e. big, slow Complexity of thought Presented facts accurately from resources and includes "wow" facts. Information copied with 85% accuracy. Inaccurate or incomplete information

Conclusion You are now an expert on penguins! You have learned lots of facts about one penguin. Find 3 people, besides classmates, and tell them about what you know. Use the links to learn about the other 16 species of penguins.
