2 Prague Castle is a significant symbol of the Czech lands
Prague Castle is a significant symbol of the Czech lands. It was probably founded by Prince Bořivoj of the Premyslid Dynasty in around 880. It´s the largest castle complex in the world. Changing the guard ceremony with a fanfare is held daily at 12 o´clock in the first courtyard. The Guard Changing by the Castle gates are held hourly from 7am to 8pm. There are six valuable gardens around the walls of Prague Castle. Within the Castle complex, there is the largest temple in Prague - St. Vitus Cathedral, where the coronation jewels of Czech kings and queens are found. HOME

3 Petřín Hill rises 318m above the left bank of the Vltava River in the centre of Prague. The Observation Tower, observatory, and a hall of mirrors, which are found at the summit, can be reached by funicular up Petřín Hill from the Lesser Town. On a clear day, it´s possible to see as far as Sněžka, which is almost 150 km far from the Observation Tower. HOME

Wenceslas Sq. is one of the two main squares in Prague. That´s the area of hotels, restaurants, banks, bars, clubs, and department stores. The square lies at the heart of the New Town. It was originally laid out as the horse market in the 14th century. At the top of the square there is Myslbek´s statue of St. Wenceslas, the good King who was murdered in the 10th century. HOME

The Old Town Sq. is one of the two main squares in Prague. It was originally the central marketplace in the 12th century. With its buildings of Romanesque, Baroque, and Gothic styles, this is one of the most beautiful historical sights in Europe. In the centre of the square, the John Huss Statue was erected in The most remarkable sights of the square are also the Old Town Hall, Astronomical Clock, and St. Nicholas Church. HOME

6 Charles Bridge, built in the 14th century by Charles IV´s architect Peter Parler, is the main pedestrian passage connecting the Lesser Town and the Old Town. Between 1600 and 1800, 30 statues were erected on the bridge (there are 75 statues nowadays). The most popular statue is probably the statue of John Nepomuk. At both ends of the bridge, there are the two towers - the Old Town Bridge Tower and the Lesser Town Bridge Tower. HOME

7 The name of Golden Lane was first documented in the 16th century, when the modest dwellings were probably inhabited by the castle goldsmiths. In 1916 and 1917, the house number 22 was inhabited by Franz Kafka. There is also a terrace with the prison tower called Daliborka, where the knight Dalibor of Kozojedy was imprisoned in 1498. HOME

8 The National Theatre is one of the most significant pieces of 19th-century Czech architecture. It is "national" in the true sense of the word. It was paid for by the Czech people themselves, and the country's most important artists were invited to decorate it with their work, e.g. M. Aleš, V. Hynais. second half of the 19th century. Before its ceremonial opening in 1881 it was severely damaged by fire and was rebuilt within the next two years. HOME

9 At the centre of the Lesser Town Square stands the church of St Nicholas, the largest Baroque church in Prague. On and around the square there are numerous palaces, some of which are the homes of foreign embassies. HOME

10 There used to be a royal palace on the spot where this art nouveau building now stands. Fans of Alfons Mucha will appreciate the stunning interiors and should take a guided tour, or at least enjoy a coffee in one of the elegant cafés. HOME

11 Vyšehrad - formerly one of the Prague's towns and originally the castle of the Pfemyslid in the latter half of the 11th century and the first half of the 12th century. Nowadays we can visit the National Cemetery here with the graves of outstanding personalities in the sphere of culture, science and politics. The original romanesque Church of Saints Peter and Paul now has a neo-gothic appearance. HOME

12 It was built between on the site where formerly stood a Gothic church from the 13th century also dedicated to Saint Nicholas. It was built by Christoph Dientzenhofer. The Baroque organs has over 4,000 pipes up to six metres in length and were played by Mozart in 1787. HOME

13 It is a Czech museum institution intended to systematically establish, prepare and publicly exhibit natural scientific and historical collections. It was founded 1818 in Prague by Kašpar Maria Šternberg. At present the National Museum houses almost 14 million items from the area of natural history, arts, music and librarianship, located in tens of buildings. HOME
