Meet the Teachers Ms. Alexis
This is my 1st year teaching at Mill Run and my 1st year as a lead classroom teacher. I spent two years at Cedar Lane as an assistant in their autism classroom. I am concurrently working towards my Masters in Education – Special Education at Shenandoah University. I studied Psychology and Childhood Studies at Christopher Newport University. My family (Mom, Dad, and brother – Ian) and I have lived in Virginia since I started at Simpson Middle School in my 8th grade and graduated in 2009 from Loudoun County High School. In between school and school , I love to be outside or at the gym. Mrs. Fisher This is my 4th year at Mill Run. My first two years were spent as a teacher assistant in Special Education (Cross Categorical), and a Substitute classroom teacher in all grades. Last year I was a teacher assistant in kindergarten. I have lived in Broadlands for 10 years, with my husband, Bill, my son Zach, and my dog CJ. Zach will be in 5th grade this year at Mill Run and has enjoyed being at this school since kindergarten! After school, I can be found carting Zach to a soccer field somewhere in Loudoun County or around the neighborhood walking CJ. Be sure to wave “hello” if you see us!

IEPs, FBAs, & BIPs…?????????? IEP’s are held annually. The IEP is your child’s Individualized Education Program. The team (including parents!) will discuss present levels, goals, accommodations, testing, placement, and services. An IEP can be held at anytime, but MUST be held each year. FBA- Functional Behavior Assessment. FBA’s are held annually for ALL students in the self-contained autism program. This is a chance for the team to look at any concerning behavior and determine the function- WHY is your child engaging in this behavior? BIP-Behavior Intervention Plan. A BIP meeting is held annually OR as needed. A review of the BIP is held quarterly. The BIP is the plan for replacing the inappropriate behavior with an appropriate behavior that serves the same function. Eligibility meetings vs. Re-evaluation meetings

Evaluation, eligibility, & re-evaluation…???
Evaluation occurs when a child is suspected of having a disability. The school will then evaluate the child to determine whether he has a disability and the nature and extent of the special education and related services that he needs. Eligibility is based on the results of evaluation, a team will determine whether a child is eligible to receive special education and related services . To be found eligible, the team must decide that the child has a disability and as a result needs special education and related services. Re-evaluation occurs at least every 3 years to determine whether a child still needs special education and related services. Parent’s Guide to Special Education (VDOE) -
