1 Thursday 9/1 Based on your prior knowledge from last year and what you have learned about the Revolution so far, create a list of similarities between the American Revolution and The American Civil War. We will discuss these as a class

2 Learning Goal On your warmup, rate your self and your current understanding of the content based on the scale below Chapter 6: The Road to Revolution Goal – Students will be able to (1) describe the various acts the British passed in an attempt to control and profit from their colonies, (2) the reactions and motivations of the colonist, (3) and explain how these events led to the colonists issuing the Declaration of Independence. (4) As an extension, students will analyze the significance of the Declaration of Independence from both the Colonist’s and British perspective.

3 Different Perspectives
Loyalists Patriots “They call me a brainless Tory (someone who believes in British tradition; but tell me, which is better: to be ruled by one tyrant three thousand miles away, or by three thousand tyrants not one mile away?” “Whenever a people prevent the execution of laws or destroy the property of individuals there is an end of all order and government.” “Shall a body of men in great Britain who know nothing of us invest themselves with a power to command our lives and properties?” “If our trade be taxed, why not our lands, or produce. In short, everything we possess? They tax us without having legal representation.”

4 Write this on a separate sheet of paper
Objective: While watching the video, create an outline of reasons the colonists wanted to leave England to form their own government Too Late to Apologize

5 Group Activity In groups of four, you will create a T-Chart detailing the reasons colonists either wanted to stay or leave. You will have 10 minuets to get your ideas onto paper. Use inferences to outline reasons you would remain loyal and use textual evidence from our notes to outline why you would rebel. Remember, this is a draft and drafts are not perfect Then, your group will be given a poster to help create a visual representation of the reasons you listed You may use art, text or a combination to express your thoughts, but do not forget to cite your work
