Testing: ASVAB military aptitude test offered twice each school year

Did you all get your scores from the MARCH 2016 test in the mail? How did you do??? Offered 6 times a year Register and pay $58.50 online Must UPLOAD a HEADSHOT photo to your registration Fee waivers available to free/reduced lunch eligible students. Lots of Info from the March 1, 2016 Results:
Scores in English, math, reading, science and writing – how did you do?? Do I need to study/practice? Interest Inventory – does it help you select a major? Do you need to retest for the college that you want to apply to??? Do I need another copy because I lost my original?

Testing: SAT: Subject Test
college specific – check college admission requirements FIRST can take up to three subjects in one day Register and pay online - cost varies based on number of tests fee waivers available to free/reduced lunch eligible students. See Ms. Inouye BEFORE registering.

Test Prep: Fall SAT Prep with an ACT workshop class beginning on August 26, Class is on 2 Saturday mornings and two Fridays after school. Pick up registration form NOW and pay $75.00 no later than Aug. 22nd. First come, first served until the class is filled. Free online prep for: SAT – ACT - Free paper study booklets available in the CCC for the SAT and ACT Borrow study books from the Kalaheo and public libraries.

Resume: Using your activities log, transfer all your activities into a resume. Remember, college and scholarship committees like students who are “involved” with activities. Sample resume available in the CCC. Save your resume on your computer and continue to update it with new activities each year. PTP is a GRADUATION requirement. “U” grades will keep you OUT OF ACTIVITIES! Resume should be provided to any person that you ask to write a letter of recommendation for you. Minimum advanced notice of two weeks (or more) should be provided.

Letters of Recommendation:
Ask teachers and counselors only IF YOU NEED a letter of recommendation. Use the SAME teacher and/or counselor letters for all college and scholarship applications. You must ASK the person BEFORE adding the names to an application. You NEED to submit a Consent for Release for Letter of Recommendation Form to Ms. Inouye before ASKING teachers and counselors. Give teachers and counselors a MINIMUM of 2 weeks (preferably ONE MONTH) to complete your letter of recommendation. This does NOT INCLUDE WEEKENDS!!!

Is College Athletics For You?
NCAA Div. 1 and 2 Athletics 16 Core Courses: 4 years English 3 years Math (Algebra 1 and higher) 2 years Science (minimum of 1 lab science) 1 year additional English, Math or Science 2 years Social Studies 4 years of additional courses (from any area above or foreign language) Must complete 10 of the 16 courses prior to the 7th semester (before the beginning of senior year) to PLAY. SAT or ACT score depending on your 16 core grade point average Register at before the end of senior year. Bring in Forms 1 & 2 for transcript processing. Send SAT or ACT score directly from testing agency to Clearinghouse Fee waiver available if you are eligible for an SAT or ACT fee waiver NAIA Athletics – must register with NAIA to compete

Work Permits and Job Board:
16 years or older Apply online at: After applying online, the work permit will be ed to you to print. Take the work permit and a form of ID (Driver’s License, State of Hawaii ID card, Military ID, or Birth Certificate) to the employer for verification. 14 or 15 years old Complete a Minor’s Certificate of Employment Form with employer and parent signatures AND one of the forms of identification listed above Job Opportunities Board located in the CCC - check out regularly

College Search Process:
Search for College(s): Use college/university websites Attend college presentations in the College & Career Center Attend the NACAC College Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016 at the Convention Center from 8:30-11:00am OR 5-8pm. Listen for the field trip announcements. Attend the Christian College Fair on Oct. 17, 2016 at 6 pm at HBA. Participate in visits to local college campuses Field Trips Open Houses

College Examples California State University (4-year, public) Schools:
Priority application window is Oct. 1- Nov. 30 of Senior Year Courses, grades, and SAT or ACT scores need to meet criteria at time of application University of California (4-year, public) Schools: Priority application submission window is Nov of Senior Year Courses, grades, SAT or ACT with Writing, SAT Subject Test scores need to meet criteria at time of application University of Hawaii at Manoa: Priority application window is Jan. 5 of Senior Year Courses, GPA, SAT or ACT scores need to meet criteria at time of application

Transcripts: Transcript request forms can be picked up in the CCC or in the office. Request form MUST be turned in for processing to room 6 in the office. One form per application. $1.00 per transcript for processing Parent signature required if you are not 18. 72 hour (3 day) processing time. It is YOUR responsibility to turn in the transcript form PRIOR to the deadline. To be safe, submit it ONE WEEK before the application deadline. Any question regarding transcripts, contact the Student Service Office (room 6) or the Registrar (room 3).

Appropriate or NOT??? Addresses – Is it appropriate? People will judge you on your address. or are NOT OKAY addresses. Social Networking Sites – What is on your Facebook and Instagram pages? DO NOT USE your Kalaheo GMAIL for college stuff! It doesn’t work OUTSIDE of KALAHEO! DO NOT Ms. INOUYE at GMAIL…I don’t check it regularly!!!
