1. Adroddiad Asesu Cwm Derwen 2010-11
2010/ 11 shows the results of our first full cohort at Ysgol Gymraeg Cwm Derwen.
There were 31 pupils including 1 from Y Ganolfan.
Each pupil represents 3.3 / 3.2 including Y Ganolfan pupil
It has been reassuring to interprate the data for our End of Key Stage 1 pupils this year as it provides us with a positive guide of how our pupils are expected to achieve. This cohort has set a high benchmark for future with all pupils achieving their challenging targets, and a very high percentage of pupils achieving level 2 and above.
Family and All Wales comparisons for end of Key Stage 1 are again positive this year with our school continuing to be first in our family of schools.
Our performance is better than all schools in our family, the local Authority and Wales.

Our Challenging targets for end of KS 1 for 2011 were for pupils to achieve level 2 + as follows
Welsh– 93.3% Achieved– 93.3% (90% including Y Ganolfan pupil)
Mathematics – 96.7% Achieved – 100%
Science % Achieved – 94%
This is lower than previous years (100%) but remained challenging when considering the complexity of difficulties within the cohort and this being our first full cohort.
The number of pupils achieving level 3 has risen in all subject areas.
In our Benchmarking group we are in the first quartile for Maths and Science and are in the third quartile for Welsh.

5. Level 3 + comparison with national Average
Pupils achieving level 3+is significantly higher than the national average in many subject areas. This is an area to be celebrated and we must now ensure that this achievement is reflected in our level 5 KS 2 results when this cohort reaches yr 6. This will continue to be a priority within the SDP with higher ability and MAT pupils identified and challenged through specific targets.

6. Cymharu Canlyniadau
We now have our own benchmark with our first full cohort. As a school we will now aim to match/ improve on our results year on year. This is targeted within the SDP through aiming for the Quality mark for Basic Skills, with systems being embedded for continuous provision to ensure that we continue to raise the standards of every pupil.

7. Comparison of Yr 2 boy/Girl achievement of level 2+
Our girls are performing better than our boys in Welsh and Science and achieving the same (100%) in Maths.
This was expected as we have 3 boys with significant and complex additional learning needs - however this will be monitored closely to ensure that no significant trend appears in following cohort results.
This is being addressed through project based learning which focuses on engaging all learners through their interests.

9. Interpretation of reading test data
The All Wales reading test was implemented by the County in response to Leighton Andrews’ concerns for standards in Literacy.
This test was chosen because it could be administered in Welsh and English in an attempt to provide a fair test for both languages.
The majority of our pupils have achieved within the banding range expected (set by LA) with some pupils performing higher than expected. However a number of our children have achieved a reading age below their chronological age.
A major target for our SDP is aiming to eliminate this under achievement, and to increase the number of pupils performing higher than expected with a number of connected actions/ strategies planned.
The impact of every strategy/ action will be monitored closely throughout the year in order to ensure maximum success.

11. NfER Maths Yr group results 2011
Performance within the NfER assessment remains strong in comparison to previous years.
Yr 4 shows an obvious dip in comparison to other year groups but there is a large percentage of pupils with SEN (4 out of 7 from Y Ganolfan).
Number and data will be a priority with this years yr 2 in order to ensure 97% of pupils achieve level 2 or above in the end of KS 1 assessments.

FSM Pupils achievements
All pupils receiving free school meals are reaching or succeeding the targets set at the beginning of the year for achievement.
There were 15 pupils in total from yr 1 upwards. 73% achieved their target and 27% succeeded their targets.

13. Pupil on the Child Protection register achievement
33% of this group of pupils achieved their target,
50% succeeded their target, 16% which is 1 pupil did not achieve the target set.
There were 6 pupils in total on the Child protection register.

14. Pupils identified as having ALN
18% of pupils identified as having ALN achieved higher than their target and 77% achieved their target. Only one pupil failed to achieve their target.
This 1 pupil also reflects in other vulnerable groups, and is waiting to access support from a variety of outside agencies.

15. Targeted Pupils
Every pupil identified as needing support to raise achievement to the next level reached their realistic target.
50% of those pupils achieved their challenging target.

16. Nursery Baseline results - Value added from Sept 2010 – July 2011
Almost every pupil has made very good progress since the start of the year.
1 pupil has been placed on the SEN register. 1 pupil is to be placed on the MAT register for exceptional reading skills.

17. Reception Baseline results - Value added from Sept 2010 – July 2011
Almost every pupil has made very good progress since the start of the year.
1 pupil is on the SEN register.
Progress appears to be less than the progress made by Nursery pupils, but the scoring system goes to 84, therefore it does not accurately measure the progress of the more able pupils. 8 pupils scored the maximum with 4 more achieving 83.

18. Comparison of level achieved in relation to target for achievement
Nearly all pupils have achieved or succeeded their realistic targets for the core subjects from years 1 to 5. Teacher predictions therefore are mostly accurate. Challenging targets are also mostly met. Key skills accreditation will reinforce this further.

19. Summary of data findings
Despite our dip in KS 1 results we remain first in our family and above the LA, and Wales average
Higher than national average level 3s – we will ensure that those pupils achieve level 5 at end of KS 2 and ensure continuation of this achievement with future cohorts
As a school we have implemented ‘project skills based learning’ for foundation subjects in order to ensure that we do not develop a significant gender gap
Our Welsh levels at end of KS 1 need to increase in order that we do not remain in the 3rd quartile in relation to benchmarking challenging target is for 97% to achieve level 2+
Despite the majority of our pupils falling within group ‘ch’, which is expected and acceptable, we have a number of pupils who fall below this benchmark. This needs to be rectified with the intervention identified in the SDP. In line with our MAT intervention it is also our intention to raise the level of group ‘a – c’ pupils.

20. Nearly all of our vulnerable pupils are appropriately targeted and challenged and this will continue to be a priority for tracking,
Nearly all Nursery and Reception pupils have made very good progress.
Nearly all KS 1 and KS 2 pupils are achieving or succeeding their realistic targets.
Our School Improvement Plan (SDP) has acknowledged the issues raised from our school/ national data results with targets / strategies further improve pupil achievement and continue to move the school forward.
