Warm-Up 8/10 Rewrite the mentor sentence on the board:
Most of the kids in my class are carrying base drums and glockenspiels and flutes. Look at notes over clauses and sentence types. Identify the type of sentence, and types of clause.

What is Plot? Answer: The pattern of events in a story or drama.

Exposition: The beginning of a story, where the author sets the tone for the story. It establishes: the setting, introduces the characters, and gives background information.

Rising Action the part of a story where the tension increases and the conflict gets exciting

The high point of interest where the conflict is resolved;
Climax The high point of interest where the conflict is resolved; also known as “The turning point”.

Definition: An external conflict that involves a mental or physical struggle between two characters in a story. Definition: An internal conflict that involves the struggle between the character and his/her conscience/self. An external conflict that involves a struggle between the elements of nature that are beyond his/her control. An external conflict that involves the struggle between the character and the rules or laws that govern the society in which he/she lives. Example: A husband and wife disagree about how their money should be spent. A teenager is torn between ditching school with her friends and staying to do the review before the test in the class she is failing. A family is stranded in a snow storm. A teenager breaks a law texting while driving.
