Before we get started, I want to review a few housekeeping items and let you know how you can participate in today’s Web event.
We’re looking at an example of the GoToWebinar Attendee Interface which is made up of two parts. The Viewer Window on the left, which allows you to see everything the Presenter will share on their screen, and the Control Panel at the right. Within that Control Panel is how you can participate in today’s event, so let’s look at that.

3. How to Participate Today
Open and close your Panel
View, Select, and Test your audio
Submit text questions
Raise your hand
Q&A addressed at the end of today’s session
Everyone will receive an with a link to view a recorded version of today’s session when it is available
Move mouse over the Grab Tab
Clicks 1, 2, and 3
By clicking the orange arrow, you can open and close your control Panel

From the View Menu you can also set the Control Panel not to auto-hide when inactive if you prefer to keep it always open.

The Audio pane provides audio information. (If the organizer has given attendees a choice) By default you have joined the Webinar via Mic & Speakers.

Click Audio Setup to select your computer speaker or headset devices.

If you prefer, you can join the audio via telephone by selecting Use Telephone, and the dial-in information will be displayed, including an Audio PIN. If you would like to ask any questions of today’s presenters over the phone, you must enter your Audio PIN in order to have your line unmuted.

During (at the end, etc.) the presentation, you have the ability to send questions to our Webinar staff through the Questions pane. Simply type in your question and click send. (Optional) At the end of the presentation we will do a Q&A session to answer as many questions as we have time for.

Build institutional capacity to utilize American Council on Education (ACE) credit recommendations listed on the Joint Services Transcript (JST) to establish direct transfer equivalencies.
Support institutions in articulating military experience to general education requirements and build equivalencies for specific Military Occupational Specialties (MOSs), as appropriate to each campus.
Showcase developed equivalencies in institutional transfer equivalency databases.

Hold initial in-service or strategy sessions
Schedule regular follow-up meetings

15. Ensure Common Language
Be sure your work group knows basic military terms and understands how to maximize information found on JST and from the American Council on Education (ACE)
Explore these resources and hold follow up discussion during your work group in-service or regular meetings

16. Assess Veteran Academic Experience
Consider data projects for more direction
What is your student veteran enrollment? What’s the 5-year trend?
What academic programs are military-connected students most frequently enrolling in?
Can you query within your SIS or transfer credit database to see what military credit awards have been made in the last 5 years?
What can you learn about the JST credit that commonly comes in to your institution?
What else do you want to know to inform your efforts?
Talk with veterans about their experiences

17. Military Competency Crosswalks
ACE Military Guide – This interactive database shows credit recommendations for courses and occupations offered by all branches of the military that have been evaluated by ACE since 1954.
MCMC bridge program inventory - This spreadsheet shows examples from institutions in the 13 Multi-State Collaborative on Military Credit states where credit is awarded (usually in block) toward programs that align with particular Military Occupational Specialty (MOS)
MN VETS database - Query to see what credit awards are offered in the MN system for particular MOSs
Ivy Tech Community College (IN) - See Credit for Prior Learning policies and take a look at their Military Training and Certification Crosswalk to see what type of credit awards they are offering student veterans

21. New Approach to Veteran’s Transfer Process
If you want to make a change that impacts policy and processes, you may need to take an innovative approach to building and enhancing the transfer process for Veterans at your institution.
We know that attending college as a veteran can be confusing and sometimes overwhelming. We are working to create policy and processes that allow veteran students to earn academic credit for some general education courses as well as career specific courses.

22. Cross Campus Collaboration
In an effort to develop a new way to look at transfer credit processes for Veteran students, it is important to establish a collaborative effort that includes participants across different divisions and departments.
What might that look like at your institution?
Developing a comprehensive Veteran’s Program that supports Veteran students through services as well as the transfer of credit based on experience and training requires collaboration across university department and divisions can be a daunting task.

Review and update ACE Credits in equivalency system
Determine what credits you want to tackle first. General Education Credits or Career Specific Courses
Decide if you need to draft a Veteran’s Transfer Policy Letter
Include your General Education Coordinator in this process

28. Follow up to ensure work is getting done and keep moving.
Make sure your working group has a shared purpose
If you are drafting a new Policy Letter, make sure that you have involve your General Education Committee in the review of the letter for feedback
Consider developing a portfolio review process specific to Veterans
