2 Fire Warden Primary Duty
Evacuate the building…Not rescue! When alarm sounds, put on hat Keep people moving the right way Guide people out of the building Sweep assigned area after everyone else has left to make sure no one is left behind Ensure all doors are closed Report to Incident Commander (Pastor) Participate in debriefing

6 Nursery Helpers (Birth – 18 months)
Carry a baby out OR, if an evacuation crib is available, place them in the crib and wheel out through the main entrance If all babies have all already been evacuated, proceed downstairs and help evacuate the children Lisa Chu & Minda Eng

7 Early Childhood Helpers (19 months – kindergarten)
Toddlers through kindergarten are lined up single file Each child holding onto the “Travel Rope” One adult is posted at the front; one adult at the back Teachers will lead them to the designated “Holding Area” (gather around the school sign) Report to the Incident Commander Jon Gee & Jason Chan

8 Elementary Children (1st – 5th grades)
1st through 3rd grade children line up single file Lead out of the building same procedure as Early Childhood 4th and 5th grade children follow fire warden instruction Respective Sunday School teachers will lead out of the building to the designated “Holding Area” (gather around school sign) Report to the Incident Commander Elsa Yeung & May Ng

9 Classroom Check… The adult who is at the back of the “Line” is responsible to: - Take quick head count of class and compare to attendance roster. - Take the attendance roster from the room. - Be the last one to leave the room, checking that it is completely unoccupied. - Turn off the lights and shut the doors, making sure the doors are unlocked. - Check the attendance roster at the “Holding Area” and account for all children.

10 Outside the Building … Lead children to the designated “Holding Area”, which is located across Orcas Street in the open field of Dearborn Park International School. Adults will group children together by grade and keep them calm. Keep all “Fire Lanes” (the areas marked in yellow) clear for Fire Department access.

11 Returning To Classrooms …
If a parent wishes to take their child, encourage the parent to wait until the emergency is over and the children have returned to class and all are accounted for. Re-enter the building ONLY when and if the proper authority gives permission (Police, Fire Personnel, or Pastor). Re-enter in similar procedure as exiting: single file, adult in front, adult in back. Check the attendance roster in the classroom and account for all children.

12 A NOTE TO PARENTS… If there is an emergency, our staff is trained and will quickly exit the building with your children.  Please follow the exiting instructions for the area you are in and refrain from coming downstairs.  Meet and stay with your child outside in the Holding Area.  Thank you.

Pay attention to where the elderly Sunday School classes meet **For fire drill only** Elderly and disabled meeting in A Room, go out the front of the church and stay in a single file line to the right of the hallway Stay in the parking lot in front of the church Report to Incident Commander If evacuation is during a time when they are not meeting, help with the children instead Allen Ng & Thomas Tsang

14 Crossing Guards Direct traffic so people can safely cross the street using crosswalk Use stop signs, wear orange vests (Inside shed) Only use area around the crosswalk. Stop the pedestrian flow often to allow cars to pass through If two people already on duty, do not go into church, walk down the hill, help the classes as they exit the building In real emergency, one guard stationed up hill, one stationed down hill, blocking off the whole street in front of the church Morgan Wong & Peter Lau

15 Evacuation Procedures
Upstairs Sanctuary and Narthex: Exit to the front of the church Nursery, A1 & A2 classrooms: Exit to the front of the church Hallway, offices, and A 3 & A4 classroom: Exit by the back stairway except elderly folks, they may exit through the front of the church by walking out in a single file line. Downstairs E Classrooms: Exit by the back stairway exit in new wing Fellowship hall and B classrooms: Exit by the large double doors ***Middle stairway only for Fire Wardens use***
