1 Jesus Talks with a Samaritan Woman

2 JESUS TALKS WITH A SAMARITAN WOMAN
John 4:1-26 Key Verse: 4:7 “When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, ‘Will you give me a drink?’” After talking with Jesus, she was changed into a heavenly princess. May the Lord come and talk with us personally.

3 Who Was This Samaritan Woman?
She was a lonely woman. She was an immoral woman with five husbands and a roommate. She was a despised woman. She was an isolated woman. She was a thirsty woman.

4 How Did Jesus Help Her? “Will you give me a drink?”
Jesus humbled himself and asked her a favor by saying, “Will you give me a drink?” “Will you give me a drink?” was the life-giving word of God. It was to quench her thirsty soul and lead her to the spring of living water welling up to eternal life.

5 “If You Knew the Gift of God…”
Jesus was offering her “the gift of God.” The gift of God is the living water—Jesus himself. Romans 6:23 says, “…but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.”

6 What Is “the Living Water”?
Psalm 36:9 says “For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.” Psalm 42:1-2 says, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” Isaiah 55:1 says, “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.”

7 “The Living Water” Jeremiah 2:13 says, “My people have committed two sins; they have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.” Jeremiah 17:13 says, “O Lord, the hope of Israel, all who forsake you will be put to shame. Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the Lord, the spring of living water.”

8 “The Living Water” Zechariah 13:1 says, “On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity.” Revelation 22:1 says, “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb.”

9 “The Living Water” The fountain of life is from God.
God is the living water. Only the living water, which comes from the throne of God and of the Lamb, quenches our spiritual thirst. Our soul needs spiritual food and spiritual water. The written word, the Bible, and the living water, the Holy Spirit, can satisfy our hunger and quench our thirst.

10 “Whoever Drinks This Water…”
Verse 13 says, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again. But whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 1:4 says, “In him was life.” John 7:38 says, “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”

11 “Go, Call Your Husband” Humanly speaking, this was interference with her private life. However, Jesus wanted to solve her life problem. Her life problem was a sin problem. This was Jesus’ love of her soul. It was to help her to repent of her sin and get right with God so that the living water flow freely in her. “Will you give me a drink?” Jesus was full of grace. “Go, call your husband,” Jesus was full of truth.

12 The Kind of Worshipers God Is Seeking…
Jesus saw her with the eyes of God. Jesus saw her spirit and truth. Jesus saw the possibility that she could be a true worshiper of God. Jesus loved her. God is seeking those who have gone astray so that they might come home.

13 “Worship God in Spirit and in Truth”
God is not flesh; God is Spirit. “In Spirit” -- Our life of worship begins when we are born again by God’s Spirit. “In Truth”-- We must worship God “in a true way” or “with genuineness.” Do not worship man, but God. God alone can satisfy our desire for happiness and be a permanent security.

14 “I Who Speak to You Am He”
Jesus is the Messiah. Only Jesus, the spring of living water and the fountain of life, can quench our thirst. After meeting Jesus, her sins were forgiven, her thirst quenched, and her spirit made alive. She became a true worshiper of God and a beautiful princess of the heavenly kingdom. May we hear Jesus’ voice, “Will you give me a drink? Go, call your husband and come back.”
