A five paragraph essay Comparing and contrasting

Getting the reader’s attention
First steps Getting the reader’s attention If you want someone to care about your opinion, give them something interesting to read! Look at the title you have chosen, how can you grab the reader’s attention? eg. Peru is a fantastic country with a lot to offer, but many people still think it is better to take holidays abroad.
3
Your thesis statement What’s the point?!
Think about what you want to say about your title. What is your opinion? How can you support your opinion? eg. I am going to compare a holiday on the Riviera Maya, Mexico, with a holiday in Cuzco, Peru, to show that Peru’s food, tourist attractions and improved tourist facilities make this country a world-class holiday destination.
4
Your paragraphs: the meat in the burger
Each paragraph should start with a topic sentence. This tells the reader what you will discuss in that paragraph. Refer to your thesis statement to put your ideas in order. Then, find at least three good examples to show the reader your point. Remember to compare and contrast in your examples!

Thesis statement I am going to compare a holiday on the Riviera Maya, Mexico, with a holiday in Cuzco, Peru, to show that Peru’s food, tourist attractions and improved tourist facilities make this country a world-class holiday destination. Topic sentences Eating is often the biggest free-time activity on holiday, so a country with excellent national cuisine is important. The main attraction when choosing a holiday destination is often related to exciting things to see and do, and Peru has plenty to offer. Of course, the best holiday in the world can be ruined by a bad hotel or tour experience.
