Rational Protagonist Rational – logical, unemotional
Protagonist – the character who tells the story By creating a RATIONAL PROTAGONIST the story becomes more scary, and more believable If it was told by an irrational person then we would think that they were making it all up! Are you more likely to believe you rational or irrational friend if they told you they’d seen a ghost?

A Frame Narrative A story within a story
Creates even more suspense – is a ghost story convention To provide a contrasting setting to the one that the protagonist is familiar with Eel Marsh House is the complete opposite to his own home Monk’s Piece

Foreshadowing A literary technique used by authors to provide clues for the reader to be able to predict what might occur later on in the story. Find TWO quotes which demonstrate the author’s use of foreshadowing Hint: we wrote out at least 2 last lesson
