6 Industrial inertia is when a company, or factory has all the reasons to change its location (e.g they are not making enough money etc), but chooses not to move for personal reasons, e.g like if their company have a product with the name of the area e.g Waterford Crystal.

Chapter summary Factories change location due to changing locational factors. An example is the Iron and Steel industry in England. Before the industrial revolution iron factories located near forests because the wood was needed for melting the iron ore. Then the trees ran out… After 1800 industries moved to coalfield areas to use coal to power the factories. Then the coal ran out… After 1950 factories moved to coastal areas because of the shortage of coal and iron ore….oil was used to make power and being shipped to the coastal areas. + industrial inertia
