ONE EQUALS THREE. THREE EQUALS ONE.
This is not math. It is a “God thing”! We worship ONE God, but He eternally exists as three Persons
2
We can’t visualize 3 in 1, but we can imagine it (conceptualize)
We can’t visualize 3 in 1, but we can imagine it (conceptualize). Three invisible spirit Persons. One takes on visible humanity. 1 (one) GOD (Jehovah/Yahweh) Plural persons (Elohim)
3
The doctrine of the Trinity of God is fundamental to the Christian faith.
Belief is Biblical. Rejection is cultic (not Biblical). We cannot wrap our minds around “Trinity”. (But we try anyway) The word itself is not found in the Scriptures. However, Scripture plainly teaches it. The German word Dreieinigkeit (“three-oneness”) better expresses the concept.
4
Jehovah is singular. (bird) Elohim is plural (covey)
Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD (Jehovah) our God (Elohim), the LORD (Jehovah) is one! 5 You shall love the LORD (Jehovah) your God (Elohim) with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
5
In the Old Testament, One Person of the Godhead periodically appears to men and women
Gen. 18:1 The LORD (Jehovah) 18:2 Abraham saw three men 18:13 The LORD (one of the “men”) said to Abraham 18:22 Two “men” went on to Sodom, the LORD stayed with Abraham. 19:1 the two “men” are identified as angels
6
God (Elohim) appeared to Jacob
Gen. 35:9 Then God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Padan Aram, and blessed him. And God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; your name shall not be called Jacob anymore, but Israel shall be your name.” So He called his name Israel. Also God said to him: “I am God Almighty (El Shaddai)
7
Ex. 33:11 The LORD (Jehovah) spoke to Moses many times face to face, as to His friend
8
Judges 13:3 The Angel (sent one) of the LORD (Jehovah) appeared to Samson’s mother
13:8 She called Him, “Man of God (Elohim)” and LORD (Jehovah)(13:23) 13: 22 Manoah called him God (Elohim)
9
God the Father is always referred to as the One who sits on the Throne, the One who “sends” His Son and the Holy Spirit John 8:16; 14:26; 16:28; 17:1 The Holy Spirit does not appear and speak “face to face”. We deduct that it is the Son (Therefore) The Son of God is the One who came periodically to earth to appear to individuals
10
In the O. T. God the Son only “appeared” human. In the N. T
In the O.T. God the Son only “appeared” human. In the N.T. He took on humanity forever “PRE” INCARNATE CHRIST INCARNATE CHRIST Old Testament; The Father sent Him to earth periodically to communicate with individuals. He took on temporary appearances: a traveling man, a soldier, a wrestler, an angel (THE ANGEL OF JEHOVAH in the O.T. is always God)
11
In the O. T. “THE ANGEL OF JEHOVAH” is always Christ. Mrs
In the O.T. “THE ANGEL OF JEHOVAH” is always Christ. Mrs. Manoah called Him a “very awesome man”, God (Elohim) and LORD (Jehovah)
12
In Isaiah, preincarnate Christ is called “My Servant” who suffered and died for the sins of mankind.
Isa. 52:13 Behold, My Servant His visage was marred more than any man, 53:2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And when we see Him, There is no beauty. He is despised and rejected by men, 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
13
Beginning with conception in the virgin Mary (Luke 1:31,35), God the Son became man. He became, is, and will forever be fully God and fully man Jn 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 14. And the Word became flesh
14
Col. 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
15
Let us now turn to the Holy Spirit
Let us now turn to the Holy Spirit. He is the “POWER” Person of the Trinity Judges 13:24 Samson’s mother The Spirit gave him POWER 24 So the woman bore a son and called his name Samson; and the child grew, and the Lord blessed him. 25 And the Spirit of the Lord began to move upon him
16
Gen. 1:2 “And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters”. His POWER brought everything into existence
17
The POWER of the Spirit of God gave Bezalel wisdom and skill to design and build the whole Tabernacle set up. Ex. 31:3
18
The Spirit gives (POWER) gifts and skill to every N. T
The Spirit gives (POWER) gifts and skill to every N.T. believer to carry out the commands and works of Christ 1 Cor. 12:4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:
19
The three in one Godhead created all things
God THE FATHER in heaven plans it all God THE SON comes to earth to do and to speak the Father’s plan into existence God THE HOLY SPIRIT is the power that makes it happen
20
The FATHER grieves Genesis 6:6 The SON grieves Mark 3:5
Three qualities define PERSON; (1)intellect, (2) will, and (3) emotion. Father, Son, and Spirit each possess all three. The FATHER grieves Genesis 6:6 The SON grieves Mark 3:5 The SPIRIT grieves Eph. 4:30
21
1. The Father’s plan was to send His Son to become human, die in the place of sinners, and rise up from death. Whoever would be sorry for sinning and believe in Him would be forgiven and granted life in heaven. 2. God the Son carried out the Father’s plan 3. The Holy Spirit convicts everyone of sin and convinces everyone that God offers forgiveness and Life through His Son
22
Right this moment Will you confess to God that you have disobeyed His commands and sinned against Him many, many times? Will you right now turn your back on living sinfully, and turn to God who loves you? Will you pray to Him, tell Him you believe in His Son, that He died for you and rose again. Right now ask Jesus come into your life, save you, and be your helping Friend forever.
