Vision in Life Sciences
Industry Trends Vision in Life Sciences Lab Automation / Drug Discovery Microscopy Medical Imaging Image from Commercial Microscope Image from Modified iPhone Camera Computer scientists are developing new adaptive mobile technology which could enable blind and visually-impaired people to 'see' through their smartphone or tablet. Funded by a Google Faculty Research Award, specialists in computer vision and machine learning based at the University of Lincoln, UK, are aiming to embed a smart vision system in mobile devices to help people with sight problems navigate unfamiliar indoor environments. Based on preliminary work on assistive technologies done by the Lincoln Centre for Autonomous Systems, the team plans to use color and depth sensor technology inside new smartphones and tablets, like the recent Project Tango by Google, to enable 3D mapping and localization, navigation and object recognition. The team will then develop the best interface to relay that to users – whether that is vibrations, sounds or the spoken word. Vision provides affordable, high-res solutions for doctors in developing countries X-Ray cameras and image processing equipment capture and store digital X-Ray images in place of X-Ray films Vision provides efficient guidance for lab robots and automated inspection of pharmaceutical drugs Vision Statistics Manufacturing Trends Economy

MFG to U.S. China’s unit labor costs are just 4% lower than in the U.S. since wage growth has outpaced productivity growth and the yuan has appreciated. While manufacturing output per employee in China doubled between 2003 and 2016, the U.S. remains 80% to 90% more productive. U.S. manufacturing may not be in a renaissance yet, but studies are finding increasing interest and signs of a shift. Vision Statistics Manufacturing Trends Economy
