Food no longer rationed for War Boom in spending → Product Shortages → Prices go up Wages did not increase enough B) Example: During WW1 - Told not to eat Grain, save for soldiers abroad 1919 Post WW1 - Everyone buys bread after years of rationing Not enough Bread → Bread worth more → Cant afford bread. Outrage.

A) Boston Police Strike 75% of police dept. on strike Rioting/Looting begin National Guard has to save Boston All strikers fired B) Gary Steel Strike - 350,000 steelworkers Strike Strikebreakers hired permanently C) Seattle General Strike - all workers strike paralyzing city 60,000 involved Nothing gained, people worry about communism

1) Communist Revolution in Russia (Why Russia left WW1) 2) Strikes seen as method to start revolution B) Palmer Raids 04/ bombs mailed to prominent Americans 06/ bombs go off in 8 cities - killing hundreds Attny General Palmer created “General Intelligence Division” to combat revolutionary conspiracy This will become FBI 6,000 people arrested for “socialist ideology” 600 people deported
