SPORTS PHYISICS REQUIREMENTS
General Course Description: The course is rigorous, comprehensive,  relevant and demands a high level of abstract thinking, memorization,working with diagrams, and application of knowledge to problem solving. With Algebra I and Geometry being a prerequisite for this course it is assumed that the student is proficient in arithmetic, 
algebra and in the use of a calculator.  Student participation in laboratory activities is
essential for success in this course.  The main aim is to help the student see, understand
how everything we do is explained by the laws of Physics .  The central idea of the year
is to identify how different types of forces can change sport situations/life events. Students
will have the opportunity to be part of many projects that will be discussed not only from the science perspective but from the commercial view point. The material could become
challenging but students will be encouraged and guided towards team work and reciprocal help throughout the year.

Office Hours: Due to teaching schedule, I may be able to
meet with you only after school (from 2:45 to
3:30 ) by appointment.
Classroom materials: a) Options:
- One 1-subject notebook for classnotes,
(on a daily basis) One binder (1.5 in) and loose leaf paper for all
activities ;
b) Graphing calculator or scinetific calculator;
c) Pencils or pens.

3. GRADING
OBJECTIVELY
TESTS(T) and QUIZ(Q) Test: Given after one or more units; questions based on subject content and
40% understanding. Tests may consist of multiple choice, matching, short answer
essays, and problem solving(calculations).Test will be always announced and its
time length may vary: from 30 minutes to 43 minutes; Quiz and Do Now will be given
out almost everyday. . It will cover the material we have discussed in lectures,
reading from homework, laboratories performed, or demonstrations viewed in class.
These quizzes will be presented in different forms such as: cross word puzzles, word
search, fill in the blanks, open ended problems, short essays etc. Quizzes will be no
longer than 10 minutes and may vary in point value.
LAB : % Based on observations and scientific method; graded on completeness and
accuracy of data, correctness of prelab quizzes and correctness of analysis
section.
HOMEWORK(HW )& CLASSWORK: (CW)
10% Given for each chapter, problems will supplement classroom activities- it is
important to do all of the assigned problems to the best of your ability. Homework
will be assigned every night in the form of reading from websites, practice problems
from the worksheets. The written homework must have a
full. Good problem solvers spend time practicing on their own, rather than watching
others solve problems. The evaluation of homework will be done by collection at the
teacher’s request;
QUARTERLY At the end of each marking period ( it could be a test or a lab involving most of the
20% concepts learned during the marking period)
Note: other materials may be assigned where necessary and checked for satisfactory completion within a given time- projects, written reports, computer materials, etc…Most of the assignments are posted on my website.
SUBJECTIVELY: You will be evaluated daily on: preparedness, laboratory performance, class
participation, attitude, punctuality, and discipline.

4. CLASS RULES
Cheating: cheating in any form will not be tolerated in this class. If I suspect cheating, I will take appropriate measures to squelch this activity.
Attendance: All work missed while absent is to be made up after you return to class according to the school policy. It is the student responsibility to get the assignments they missed. If the absence is school related, and the student has reported to school that day, any assignments that are due must be turned in on that day.
Unexcused absences: No work except tests may be made up after an unexcused absence.
Make up work: Tests and quizzes will be made up in the laboratory(212). Labs will not be made up. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain from his/her lab partners the complete documentation needed for the lab report.
Late assignments: Only assignments turned in on the due date will be considered for full credit (unless for an excused absence). Some assignments will be accepted the following day with a penalty. This will vary depending on each assignment’s turn over time. Therefore, the student should ask if the assignment would be accepted for a late penalty if they want to hand the work in for credit.
THERE IS NO EXTRA CREDIT FOR THIS CLASS!
Discipline:
1. OUR PRIMARY GOAL IN THIS CLASS IS TO LEARN CHEMISTRY. Students will respect the rights of others to learn in a safe, enlightening, and productive environment.
BE ON TIME! Otherwise, consequences will not be pleasant. Three tardies results in a call to your parents. A forth results in a referral to the assistant principal.
3. COME TO CLASS WITH ALL THE REQUIRED EQUIPMENT— and be prepared to take notes.
4. BE PREPARED TO PARTICIPATE in class discussions, which will be based on the reading and/or homework. Also, be prepared to participate in board work—a good source of bonus credit.
5. RAISE YOUR HAND if you wish to add something to lectures or discussions. Otherwise, when I am addressing the class—that is, lecturing—DON'T TALK.
6. NO CELL PHONES/Ipad without teacher’s permission.(1st offense – teacher will take it and student can pick it up at the end of the block; 2nd offense – teacher will take it and student can pick it up from the dean of students; 3rd offense – teacher will take it and student’s parent can pick it up from the teacher; 4th offense - in the class participation category the grade will suffer.
ATTEND TO PERSONAL NEEDS BEFORE COMING TO CLASS. I have been instructed not to give passes to lockers and to limit passes, so please do not ask for a pass unless you have a true emergency.
DO NOT EAT OR DRINK – unless you have been given special permission.
