5 Atmosphere mixture of mostly invisible gases that surrounds Earth
Exosphere

6 Geosphere Mostly solid, rocky part of Earth. It extends from the center of Earth to the surface of Earth. COMPOSITIONAL LAYERS: CRUST: thin, outermost layer MANTLE: hot layer of rock between the crust and core CORE: in the center; made of iron (Fe) nickel (Ni) PHYSICAL LAYERS: LITHOSPHERE: Outermost layer ASTHENOSPHERE: solid, plastic like layer upon which the tectonic plates move MESOSPHERE: Solid layer of the mantle OUTER CORE: Liquid iron (Fe) and nickel (Ni) INNER CORE: Solid iron (Fe) and nickel (Ni)

7 Biosphere The biosphere is made up of living organisms and the include the areas of Earth where life can be found.

8 Hydrosphere All of the water on Earth
The hydrosphere is made up of water both in and on the Earth. Examples: oceans, lakes, and rivers.

9 Cryosphere All frozen water on Earth (Ex. Glaciers)

10 Review: Identify the Earth’s spheres represented in the image and explain 2 interactions between spheres.

Hydrosphere (H) The jaguar (B) is interacting with: the atmosphere (A) by breathing, the biosphere (B) by standing on the tree, and the hydrosphere (H) by drinking it. The trees (B) are interacting with: the geosphere (G) by growing in Earth, and the hydrosphere (H) by getting water and the atmosphere (A) by photosynthesis.

The Ox (B) is interacting with the hydrosphere (H) by drinking it and the hydrosphere (H) and geosphere (G) by standing on/in it, and the atmosphere (A) by breathing it.
