Is there a real problem with unemployment in the city of Thessaloniki? Is there a real problem with social exclusion in the city of Thessaloniki? Do the people feel uncomfortable with immigrants and people who have been repatriated? How are we going to examine the above situations?

Lack of communication between neighbours Luck of participation in associations People prefer to “have fun” with “equals” Single parents don’t have time to go out Unemployed people don’t have the money to go out But Most of the people need new friendships & they want to participate in new thing (associations, festivals, etc)

TWO VOCATIONAL COUNSELLING CENTRES For unemployed people, immigrants, unemployed people over 45 ethnic minorities, etc For unemployed young people Where people have the chance to attend sessions regarding: Vocational orientation Legal support New ways of finding jobs Accounting support Psychosocial support, etc

THREE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMMES Self – employment Nine (9) months practice for young people without any experience in the public or private sector Two (2) years employment for unemployed people in the public or private sector

ONE INFORMATION CENTRE This Centre has the main responsibility to inform people about employment programmes, vocational training programmes.

PUBLICITY & CITIZENS AWARENESS Theatre, cinema, and music festival; TV spots; Radio spots; Conferences ; Newspaper articles; Publications; Website;

39 EVALUATION

40 Evaluation (18 months) 550 people have visited the two vocational counselling centres; 780 people have visited the information centre; One music festival took place in Thessaloniki, where immigrants and ethnic minorities had the main role and many people attended it; Two documentaries have been played regarding the life of citizens;

41 Evaluation (18 months) Two TV spots regarding the programme and its goals are playing; Two radio spots regarding the programme and its goals are playing; One conference took place in Thessaloniki in order for citizens, companies and organisations to be informed about the programme;

42 Evaluation (18 months) Five different publications have been maid regarding the life of ethnic minorities and immigrants, the goals of the programme, the work of the two vocational counselling centres, the work of the information centre; Nine (9) vocational training programmes have been implemented for 180 citizens; Two (2) Greek language training programmes have been implemented for 40 immigrants and people who have been repatriated;

43 Evaluation (18 months) One website have been created were everyone can find all the necessary information about the programme 54 citizens took funds in order to open their one companies 98 young people are participating in the nine (9) months practice programme 78 people are participating in the two years employment programme

44 LIMITATIONS

45 limitations The bureaucracy
There is a need for more NGOs to participate to such programmes There is a need for more associations (e.g. ethnic minorities or immigrants associations) to participate to such programmes

47 Lap & rap There is a connection between LAP & RAP especially regarding the following priorities: Promoting investment in and tailoring of active labour market measures to meet the needs of those who have the greatest difficulties in accessing employment; Making a drive to reduce poverty and social exclusion of immigrants and ethnic minorities
