COURSE INSTRUCTOR COURSE DESCRIPTION AGENDA Dr. Mickey Shah, PT, DSc, OCS, FAAOMPT, Cert.MDT, CSCS This evidence-based course will provide clinicians the ability to evaluate and manage patients with common vestibular disorders. A variety of education materials will be presented in order to enhance learning via lecture, video, and hands on lab sessions. The course is intended to enhance the clinician’s ability to determine central vs. peripheral vertigo, appropriateness of vestibular rehabilitation, and manage patients experiencing dizziness from unilateral/bilateral vestibular loss, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), and central vestibular disorders. He has a strong background in clinical neurology and vestibular conditions. He graduated from D’Youville College in Buffalo, New York with his Masters in Physical Therapy. After completing his physical therapy education he went on to the University of Maryland to complete his Doctor of Science Degree with a specialization in neurological movement disorders. Dr. Shah completed the vestibular rehabilitation competency course at Emory University. In addition Dr. Shah has served as adjunct clinical faculty at Governors State University, Fox College, and a teaching assistant at Northwestern University. In 2013, Dr. Shah received the outstanding clinical instructor of the year award from Governors State University. His current clinical practice consists of orthopedics and neuro-vestibular disorders COURSE OBJECTIVES Educational Credit IPTA: contact hours This course content is not intended for use by any participants outside the scope of their license or regulation. Upon Completion of course, participant will be able to: Describe normal and patho-anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system. Describe mechanisms of postural control (connections between vestibular, oculomotor and somatosensory systems.) Recognize patients that are not appropriate for treatment and require referral. Perform vestibular examination procedures and be able to describe the purpose of each test. Identify appropriate outcome measures and be able to interpret findings. Interpret examination data and Initiate and an appropriate vestibular rehabilitation program.
