Compound Sentence Two sentences together using FANBOYS:
Toby fell down the stairs, and Mary broke her ankle.

Ms. Lily had a cat, but a dog ate it.

Complex sentence: Two sentences together using a subordinating conjuction: Toby fell down the stairs AFTER Mary broke her ankle. AFTER Mary broke her ankle, Toby fell down the stairs.
