Science Week 2016 Year 1
2
Monday We started our week with Professor Brainstorm doing a science show. We explored the use of light and sound. Professor Brainstorm did experiments, we had to predict what was going to happen then help Professor Brainstorm carried out the experiments. Here are some pictures of the experiments.

Monday Making vibrations to create sound. Mixing colours.
Looking at different shadows. Making vibrations to create sound.

Monday In the afternoon we started to think about the science project
‘The Greatest Inventions’ We were all creating a tractor with a new invention. We planned our own individual ideas and then worked in groups to create our new tractors.
6
Tuesday On Tuesday, we started our morning with a workshop looking at spinning tops. We explored different types of spinning tops and looked at how it worked. We then created our own spinning tops using card and pencils.
7
Tuesday Exploring the marble spinning tops.
Investigating the spinning tops. Making our own spinning tops.

Wednesday Wednesday afternoon we mixed with all the classes and did some experiments. We enjoyed predicting what would happen then doing the investigation to see if we were correct.

Thursday We went to Farmer Parrs to look at all the animals in the farm and the inventions in the museum. We got to look at the reptiles, birds, mammals and amphibians. We started off with an animal show where we learnt lots of interesting facts about the animals.

Thursday We then got the chance to groom the ponies where we talked about their feet and the differences and similarities to humans. We also explored the reptile room where we looked at herbivores, omnivores and carnivores.
11
Thursday We then explored the farm and looked at the different animals. We discussed what was similar and different about each of the animals and what stands out for each animal. We saw lambs and kids where we talked about them being babies and what we have to do for them.
12
Thursday Finally we got to explore the museum and look at all the inventions that we have been learning about in topic. We found ‘The Little Grey Fergie’ which was a significant tractor invented in the 1950’s.
13
Friday On Friday, to finish off Science Week, we went to Year 5 to share our greatest inventions project. We all got into partners with a Year 5 and told them about what we had created and what the parts were to our inventions.
