2 Plant cells Plant cells have three differences from an animal cell they are: Cell wall Chloroplast Large vacuole

3 All living things need energy.
All organisms need energy in order to survive, it is one of the six characteristics of all living things. Animals get their energy from _________? Plants get their energy from _________?

4 Two different types of organisms
Autotroph/producers- are organisms that can make their own food, list and two examples of organism that can make its own food. Heterotroph/consumers- are organisms that can NOT make their own food. Heterotroph get their ENERGY by consuming (eating ) other organisms. List two examples of a heterotroph.

5 Autotroph Plants are autotrophs- they make their own food with the help of the sun, they do this through a process known as PHOTOSYNTHESIS. Photosynthesis- is the process by which a plant cell captures energy in sunlight and uses it to make food.

6 Stages of photosynthesis
There are two stages of photosynthesis, they are: Stage one- capturing cells energy Stage two- using energy to make food

7 Stage one: capture energy
The first step is for the plant to capture energy from the sun. Chloroplast are green organelles found within the cell. They are filled with a green pigment called chlorophyll. The chlorophyll attracts the suns rays and uses the energy to power the second stage.

8 Stage two: Using the energy to make food
We need two RAW ingredients to start the process they are: carbon dioxide and water. With the help of energy from the chloroplast with the combination of water and carbon dioxide to make sugar for the plant and a bi product called oxygen that will be released for US.

9 Where do the RAW materials come from?
Water is absorbed through the roots and stems of the plant. Carbon dioxide comes into the plant through tiny little openings called the stomata.

10 Equation 6 CO H2O C6H12O O2 Carbon dioxide + water + Energy = sugar + oxygen
