3. The Main Concern Mumbai produces 9500+ tons
Navi Mumbai & Thane produces abt
650 tons of mixed waste daily.
All 6/7 landfills are totally overflowing.

4. The Main Concern Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane
has population close to 1.75 Cr.
All 4 rivers
1. Dahisar river 2. Mithi river
3. Oshiwara river 4. Poisar river
are choked & converted to naIIahs
Total Coastline (about 18 beaches) is dirty

5. on Transport of waste. The Main Concern As per WHO Mumbai is 5th
Mumbaikars spend 1400 Crores
on Transport of waste.
As per WHO Mumbai is 5th
most polluted Megacity of the world.

6. Why to do? It not now, then when ??? Who should do?
We & not Municipal Corporation / Govt.
Why to do?
Its we, who generate the waste.
Its our money / tax which MCGM uses.
Its we who are ultimately affected.

Provide 3 color bins to members/ Ask them to procure
Put Segregation Chart at Notice Board
Based on report of Core Team, finalize the Vendor and Composting process.

15. Core Team: Check composting options opted by
few Societies & offered by Vendors.
Submit comparative report of Composting process to Committee Members.
Training/ guidance to Housekeeping Staff/ Sweeper - Segregated Waste collection & disposal.
Help in starting the Composting process
Sell Dry waste to Vendor
Sell excess Compost - Amount goes to Society

16. Members:
Put segregated waste in 3 Dustbins.
Use compost for Kitchen Gardening.
Housekeeping Staff/ Sweeper/ Outsourced Agency:
Send only Rejected waste to Landfills via Municipality
Take care of Composting activities.
Use the compost for Society garden.

18. A Thumb Rule - Standard Estimate:
A house of 4 members generate 750 gm - 1 kg of Waste Out of which gm is Wet Waste.
100 Kgs of Waste would convert to kgs of Compost.
For a Society of 50 / 100 / 250 flats:
Rs. 1, ,500 initial investment per Flat.
Rs per month maintenance.
