3 Introduction Why CTE? High Quality CTE Planning Tool
The strongest and most general recommendation is this: MAKE HIGH-QUALITY, LABOR-MARKET-ALIGNED CTE AVAILABLE TO ALL STUDENTS, AND ENCOURAGE (AND ENABLE) THEM TO PARTICIPATE. High Quality CTE Planning Tool We are preaching to the choir here. If you are at this conference you most likely already understand that high school CTE improves outcomes for students seeking to start their careers quickly, but is no hindrance to those who want additional academic training. Granted, even the best CTE policy requires thoughtful implementation, since there is still risk that low-performing students will be “tracked” into courses that don’t leave them will prepared for college. But districts can mitigate this risk by offering courses and programs of study that appeal to students of varying interests and abilities, and counseling all students into them. - from a study by the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, April 2016

4 High Quality CTE Planning Tool
Raelynn This tool is a “living” resource document. As policies, rules, guidelines change we can easily update things so that the most current information is always available. This resource can be found at

5 Funding Sources Perkins, CCPT, CTEIG, CPA, Ag Incentive Grant, LCAP, SSP Restrictions LCAP, LCAP, LCAP Chris Links to all of these source sites can be found in the CTE Planning Tool.

6 CTEIG Program Requirements
Curriculum & Instruction Career Exploration & Guidance Student Support & Leadership Development System Alignment – Secondary and Postsecondary Employer Partnerships/Advisory Work-based Learning Responding to Current Demands Student Certification CTE Teacher Credentialing Data Reporting Raelynn There are 10 program requirements in CTEIG and this is how they are listed in the CTEIG grant. We will review each of these, some in more detail than others, but all are necessary for developing your District CTE Plan. We will take them out of order, as there should be a method to the madness of developing your CTE plan.

10 CTEIG Program Requirements Chris The CTE Plan Template that we created is based on a 2008 CCSESA publication. With the fast paced changes of technology and the slower paced changes of the legislature and CDE, we found it senseless to publish yet another book or manual. Instead, this is a living document with active links to current information and it is updated often. The most recent version can always be found on the CTEIG Technical Assistance Region 2 Basecamp site.

Do High School Pathways align with Postsecondary Offerings? Articulation Articulated Credit is a means to high school students to gain college credit for high school course work. By completing a course with a “B” or better, students have two years to apply for and receive college credit at specific postsecondary institutions for their previous high school work. Dual Enrollment Dual enrollment agreements allow high school student s to simultaneously earn high school and college credit by completing selected courses. Upon completion of the dual enrolled course, students receive a college transcript and the credits may be transferable to other institutions. Chris Do students have a postsecondary place to go to continue their work/studies in that pathway? Handout: Articulation & Dual Enrollment
