2 The End is Near…Do This! – Part II
4:7-11

3 Christian Living in a Hostile World
Theme Christian Living in a Hostile World

4 Acts 1:6-7 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.

5 Jobes The consummation of the kingdom of God will involve the return of Christ and the end of history as we know it because those events are necessary for God to achieve his telos, the redemption of humanity.

6 1 Peter 1:20 He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you

7 Acts 2:16-18 But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel: “ ‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams…

8 The End is At Hand Think right so you can pray Love one another
Show hospitality Serve one another

9 1 Peter 1:13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

10 1 Peter 4:7 The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.

11 Matthew 24:12 And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.

12 Casual Christians create casualties.

13 1 Peter 1:22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart

14 Colossians 3:12-14 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

15 Matthew 22:36-40 “Teacher, which is the great command-ment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two command-ments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

16 Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.

17 Clement of Rome …love that endures everything, is long-suffering to the last.

18 N.D.J. White …this is how one acts when under control of such love…”when a private personal injury has been done to him, as though nothing has occurred. In this way, by simply ignoring the unkind act or the insulting word,…he brings the evil thing to an end; it dies and leaves no seed…This

19 N.D.J. White consideration gives dignity and worth inestimable to the feeble efforts of the most insignificant of us to make love the controlling principle in our daily lives.”

20 Jobes ...the fundamental characteristic that enables a Christian community to survive is the willingness and ability of its members to love in this way.

21 Grudem Where love abounds in a fellowship of Christians, many small offences, and even some large ones, are readily overlooked and forgotten. But where love is lacking, every word is viewed with suspicion, every action is liable to misunderstanding, and conflicts about - to Satan’s perverse delight.

22 Galatians 6:10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

23 Matthew 25:37-40 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

24 Titus 2:7-8 Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, 8 and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.

25 Romans 12:11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.

26 Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

27 Jobes Christian teaching and counsel is to reflect the truth of the living hope into which they have been reborn, thereby encouraging, edifying, and rebuking each other in love.
