Trent Parke Art Trent Parke, the first Australian to become a Full Member of the renowned photographers' cooperative Magnum Photo Agency, is considered one of the most innovative and challenging photographers of his generation. Moving beyond traditional documentary photography, Parke’s work sits between fantasy and reality. Using harsh light and shadows to find beauty in the banal, his images offer an emotional and psychological portrait of Australia that is poetic, dramatic and often darkly humorous.

How Trent Parke Started His Career As A Photographer
Trent Say “I grew up on the outskirts of Newcastle where the suburbs meet the bush. When I came to Sydney at the age of 21 I left everything behind – all my childhood friends and my best mate – at first I just felt this sense of complete loneliness in the big city. So, I did what I always do: I went out and used my Leica to channel those personal emotions into images.”

How did the Seventh Wave project come about?
I had just returned from travelling as a sports photographer with the Australian cricket team. I’d done this for many summers and so I had rarely had the opportunity to go to the beach. I remember that day at Freshwater beach very clearly: puffy white clouds, crystal clear water, late afternoon backlighting. One of my childhood friends who I call Wombat who was visiting burst through a wave and said “Hey Parkey, wouldn’t that make a great photograph.” I’d been hearing that all my life… “Yeah, yeah, Wombat, sure it would.” But I was also reliving my childhood at the beach and felt something stirring. Narelle, who also grew up near the sea, was having the same sorts of feelings. We went out the next day, bought underwater cameras and spent every sunny day for the next two years at the beach.

My Favorite Photograph
- What is the lighting used? (Artificial (inside) or natural (outside). The Lighting Is Used Out Side To Show The Bunny. What direction is it coming from? Comment on the lighting. From The Out Side Into The Window To Show The Outline Of The Bunny. - What is the main subject of the photograph? How can you tell? The Bunny Because It Is The Center of Attention It Litterly Is In The Center. - Explain HOW the composition works to make the photo so striking? I Think The Way The Floor Is Lit Up Leads It You The Bunny And How It Is easily balanced With The Bed And The Dresser On The Other Side - Why did you select this photograph as opposed to any other? Because I Love How Dark It Is It Just Reminds Me Of A Movie When I Was Little And Idk I Just Love It
