Professional Development Funding & Leave Resources for Classified Employees at American River College A collection of information offering the ARC Classified employee a variety of helpful funding and leave resources and opportunities

Classified Professional Development Committee: membership
The Classified PD Committee is composed of 9 members: Two permanent voting members (staff from Instruction & Learning Resources) and the Staff Resource Center Assistant for the Center for Teaching and Learning [CTL]) One permanent non-voting Manager position (Dean of Instruction & Learning Resources) One member from each of the “Four Corners” of campus (Admin Services, President Services, Student Services, and Instruction) One Classified Supervisor One Manager The six non-permanent members of the Committee serve staggered three-year terms Classified members are appointed to this committee by the Classified Senate President

Classified Professional Development Committee: Function
Provide assistance, guidance, and financial support to classified staff in the expansion, progress, and/or growth of their professional development. Review funding request applications and award funding for staff development, including conferences and workshops, submitted by permanent classified staff. Advertise classified professional development application procedures, deadlines, and funding availability. Encourage attendance at events of interest to classified staff, in collaboration with the ARC Classified Senate, the Center for Teaching and Learning, and other groups. Provide input to the Professional Development Coordination Committee on the distribution and use of available monies.

Classified Professional Development Committee: Application Requirements
There are a few requirements for funding: Recipient of funds must be a permanent classified employee at ARC (i.e. successfully passed the one-year probationary period). Activity/event should relate to the employee’s job and/or professional growth. For forms, see website below, or contact Christina Wagner, CTL x8558 ations.htm

Applying for Classified Professional Development Funding: Application Process
Applicant submits a Classified PD Funding Application online by the advertised deadline. Strength of any application is dependent on funding support received from related sources (e.g. department or area). Letters of support help, but not as significantly as funding support shown on the application. After Committee review and vote, applicant will be notified of committee decision by . If approved, applicant will submit their original Travel Authorization (TA) with Part I completed to Instruction & Learning Resources. The travel authorization will be coded and forwarded to the Business Office for completion. The Business Office will process and return the travel authorization to the applicant.

Applying for Classified Professional Development Funding
Currently the maximum annual funding award is $ per employee Committee has the option of fully or partially funding any request, depending on amount of district, college, and/or area allocation, amount of employee’s total funding awards over time, the time of year, etc. It’s possible to apply for retroactive funding by submitting a completed application with a copy of the final Travel Authorization. Retroactive funding may be fully or partially awarded, and is not guaranteed.

Applying for Classified Professional Development Funding: applicant’s responsibility after receiving funding After the event, applicant completes (within 3 days) Part III of the TA and returns it to Instruction & Learning Resources for final coding and signatures. Additionally, the applicant completes (online, within 30 days) a brief evaluation report of the activity for committee review. The evaluation report form and examples of event evaluations are located on the committee’s website, alongside the applications.

Guidelines for LRCEA Enrollment and Tuition
LRCEA ( ) Enrollment Fees and/or Textbook Reimbursement (Articles 7.21 and 16) $1100 per Los Rios fiscal year for any Los Rios class. This includes enrollment fees, transit pass, Student Representative fees, and textbooks purchased at a Los Rios bookstore. Paperwork available from Beth Hartline in Business Services, x8483 $1100 per fiscal year (lifetime max. $1,800) for courses completed at any accredited college outside the district. Must be pre- approved. Tuition reimbursement only. Paperwork available from Beth Hartline in Business Services, x8483 Check the union contract or contact a union representative for more information. Guidelines for LRSA Enrollment and Tuition
LRSA ( ) Enrollment Fees and/or Textbook Reimbursement (Article 5.9) Up to $1,000 per fiscal year for any Los Rios class. Also includes textbooks purchased at a Los Rios bookstore. Paperwork available from Beth Hartline in Business Services, x8483 Up to $1,000 lifetime maximum for courses completed at an accredited college outside the district. Must be pre-approved. Paperwork available from Beth Hartline in Business Services, x8483 An additional $4,000 per lifetime may be reimbursed through LRSA’s PFE Staff Development Funds. Guidelines for LRCEA/LRSA Staff Development Leave
LRCEA and LRSA Must have supervisor approval Current work assignment at least 75% of a full-time, 12-month assignment 1 to 5 month leave for educational purposes Totally released from job 85% of salary paid during leave Agree to serve the district for a period of time which is equal to twice the leave There must be at least 5 full-time equivalent years of service between leaves granted to one individual. Guidelines for SEIU Enrollment and Tuition
SEIU ( ) Enrollment Fees and/or Textbook Reimbursement (Article 16.2) Maximum of $750 per fiscal year for any Los Rios credit class (up to 12 units per semester). Also includes textbooks purchased at a Los Rios bookstore. Paperwork available from Beth Hartline in Business Services, x8483 $750 per fiscal year not to exceed $1,500 lifetime maximum for courses completed at an accredited college outside the district.
