2. Map Title
The purpose of the map title is to identify what the map is showing. This is especially important with historical maps!

3. Compass Rose
The compass rose normally marks the four cardinal directions on a map: north, south, east, and west.
Sometimes only “North”

4. Map Key or Legend
Tells the reader how to interpret the information on the map.

5. Map Scale
Identifies the distance on the map. For example, one inch could equal many different measurements of distance depending on the size of the map.
