2 The Roman Empire’s official language was Latin

3 Class Demonstration Stand up and read the following paragraph together. Try to memorize it! You’ll try and repeat it to each other in a little bit. “Latin was the official language of the Romans. Our language has been influenced by the Romans.” “We, like the Romans, believe that people are innocent until proven guilty in a trial.” “Our ideas about government were also influenced by the Romans. Our government has checks and balances, votes, and has three branches.

Latin is the language of business in Rome today. Latin influenced many languages around the world, including eventually, the English language. Italy speaks Latin today. English and Latin are the same language.
