Our Creator God: What is He Like?
Our faith is not an intellectual leap, but a very reasonable conclusion of the evidence that is all around us. The testimony of God’s Word The testimony of the Creation (Psalm 19:1,2; Romans 1:18-20) Atheism requires omniscience, so honesty requires them to be agnostics 1 Peter 5:5 - God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

Who is God? Definition "God is a spirit who is infinite and eternal in His being, perfect and unchangeable in His attributes, and in Whom all things have their source, support and end."

God’s Essence God is Spirit - John 4:24
Immaterial and incorporeal No idols, images - Deut. 4:15f Anthropomorphic language - 1 Peter 3:12; Psalm 98:1 Invisible (1 Tim. 1:17; 6:16) Moses only saw God’s “afterglow” (Ex. 33:23) The incarnation - God veiled in human flesh (Col. 1:15; Heb. 1:3; John 14:9)

Alive - 1 Thess. 1:9; Psalm 36:9; John 1:3,4 A Person Reason / Intellect / ability to think (Isa. 1:18) Volition / Will / ability to choose (Gen. 1:26,27; 3:15; John 5:30) Emotion / Sensibility / ability to feel (Psalm 103:8,13; John 11:35; Matt. 15:32f; Matt. 4:14; Luke 7:13f; Mark 6:34) The Holy Spirit also has emotion - Eph. 4:30

God’s Essence Self-Existent - Yahweh - Exodus 3:14
His existence is in Himself (John 5:26), and He absolutely independent of Creation having no need for anything (Acts 17:24, 25). Immense - Jeremiah 23:34 God is infinite with reference to space - ( 2 Chron. 6:18 - cf. Ps. 139:7-12) Eternal God is infinite with reference to time. (Gen. 1:1; Isaiah 57:15; Luke 1:33; Psalm 90:2).

Creator - Psalm 33:6,9; Hebrews 11:3; John 1:3 God can do what He wants, but He only does what is consistent with His character He could create just they way He said He did Either Genesis 1 is true, or evolution is true - but not both. People presuppose scientists are more trustworthy than God’s word. Evolution is a hypothesis, and poor science

Omnipresent - Psalm 139:7-12 God's divine essence is everywhere present at the same time Omniscient - Psalm 147:5 He knows all things perfectly - past, present and future. (Romans 5:8; Matthew 6:8; Revelation 2:23)

Omnipotent - Matthew 19:26 God is all powerful (Gen. 18:14; Jer. 32:17f; Matt. 6:33; 2 Thess. 1:8,9) Immutable - Malachi 3:6; Heb. 13:8; James 1:7 He is unchanging in His essence and attributes In keeping with His other attributes, God responds to the changes in men - Gen. 6:6; Exodus 32:14; Jonah 3:10) (Numbers 23:19,20)

Holy - Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 4:8 God’s absolute separation from all moral evil 1 John 1:5 God distinction as the infinite Creator from His finite creation - Isaiah 57:15 God’s holiness is an aspect of all of His other moral attributes. God’s people are to be holy - Lev. 11:44; 1 Peter 1:16; 1 John 1:5-7

God’s Communicable / Moral Attributes
Righteous – Deut. 32:4; Romans 2:11 God is absolutely fair and equitable No one can truthfully say, "God did me wrong." Truth - John 14:6; 17:17 God is true. He is truth. He is the final reality God cannot lie - Titus 1:2; Numb. 23:19

God’s Communicable / Moral Attributes
Love - 1 John 4:8, 16 God is love God's action in seeking the greatest good for His people - John 3:16; Rom. 5:8 Extends to His chastisement - Heb. 12:6 Love is the greatest virtue - 1 Cor. 13:13 Good - Mark 10:18 God's love and righteousness expressed in His care and provision for His creation (Ps 84:11; Gal. 6:10; 1 Thess. 5:15; Matt 5:16).

Longsuffering - 2 Peter 3:9 God is patient and forbearing with man Romans 2:4; 1 Corinthians 13:4; 1 Thessalonians 5:14; 2 Timothy 2:24 Merciful - Mark 10:18 God's loving care and provision for those who are in misery and distress Salvation is from God’s mercy - Titus 3:5 Mercy for daily life - Hebrews 4:16 Are you humble enough to recognize it?

Gracious - God's disposition & action of love in spite of people’s sinful & undeserving condition Salvation is an act of mercy (withholding punishment deserved) and grace (giving blessings undeserved) John 1:14-18; 2 Cor. 5:17; Eph. 2:10; Gal. 4:5; Eph. 1:5) Grace of Spiritual gifts & service - 2 Cor. 9:8; Eph. 2:10 Grace in suffering - 2 Cor. 12

Conclusions God is infinitely different from us and deserving of our worship, the humble do so. We bring glory to God when we reflect His communicable / moral attributes. We accomplish that better the more we understand God and walk with Him.
