Acceptable adhesion EDMS Mechanical cleaning of projection Mechanical cleaning of the part of the plate that received the projection. Other side of plate is not touched and considered as reference. Plate A: scotch-brite on half of the plate Plate B: diamond paper on half of the plate Plate C: reference plate (no mechanical cleaning and no projections) Further Cleaning Plate A and B were cleaned with solvent, (VERTREL Sion from DuPont), at room temperature, by rinsing.

Procesure in EDMS schotch-brite Diamond paper ref Both treatments are efficient to recover adhesion. Reference side probably get some projections but are not optically visible. These projections reduce adhesion (but remain in high values) treated Ref side

Good NEG Activation NOT DONE YET Program: 26.08 Sample I (with projections) will be treated by schotch-brite or diamond paper and degreased with solvent. 29.08 assembling in coating system 30.08 NEG coating 01.09 activation in XPS.

Conclusions: Both schotch-brite and diamond paper enhance adhesion after e-beam welding projections Non optically visible projections decrease adhesion but do not induced spontaneous delamination. Compatibility with NEG activation by the end of week 35 Intermediate steps will be also analysed afterwards (surface composition after schotch-brite/diamond paper with/without degreasing)
