Everything you always wanted to know but were too afraid to ask!
IB English at QASMT Everything you always wanted to know but were too afraid to ask!
2
The IB is different! There is no bell curve!
This means that if everyone in the class earns a 45, then everyone gets a 45! This means that no-one’s success hurts anybody else! This means that students are not in competition with each other! This means that we are a team working together to try and beat the IB! This means your individual success benefits everyone. So celebrate your individual successes, as well as everyone else’s! We are all in this together!
3
Task Sheets Every assessment task has a task sheet that you will receive in advance. They explain all aspects of the task you have been set. You must fill these out, sign them, put your name on them and hand them in with your assessment task. If you do not do this, not only will your work not be marked, but you will spend detention with Ms. Bullock (grown men have been known to rip their own heads off to avoid this!)
4
Criteria Sheets Each task will have a criteria sheet that will be used to mark your work. The criteria sheet must be handed in attached to your task sheet. Failure to do this will result in you being sold off for medical experiments.
5
Referencing You are teenagers. We understand that you don’t know anything. Therefore it is expected that you will use sources for information You must cite any sources that you use, both in-text and in your bibliography We mostly use the APA style here.
6
Plagiarism Plagiarism is taken very seriously at QASMT.
It can result in a student being removed from the IB program (which means removal from the school) As a result, effective referencing in your assessment tasks is crucial. Additionally all assessment tasks must be submitted to Turnitin.
7
Turnitin! All written tasks completed outside of class must be submitted through Turnitin as a check against plagiarism. You will be taken through this process by your teacher if you have not used it before. A task can be submitted to Turnitin only once .
8
mrhqasmt.weebly.com This is a blog which allows your parents access to information about your class work and homework for the week. It is also a place to find resources and references to related materials for your work. It is interactive and you and your parents are welcome to ask questions or make comments about your work. It is also a site that allows you to pay regular homage to my dog, a very important aspect of your class work.
9
Blackboard This is a Moodle site that stores resources for your class work You should familiarise yourself with how it works and what is available in each of your study areas Your teachers will take you through this site early on in the year
10
Finally! (NOT “at last”)
Put your name and your teacher’s name on everything you do!

The holy trinity of IB Success
1. Be fit 2. Be busy 3. Be grateful (and having some fun helps a lot too)
