3 Mock Exam Dates – Jan 2017 Make sure your son/daughter understands the timetable Make sure they ask their teacher if they are not sure The exam timetable mirrors the real timetable where possible However, the real exams take place over 4/5 weeks, the mocks take place over 3! Exam Timetable (‘Key Times’) All AM exams Finish at 12:00, (For the Mock Exams 11:30) All PM exams Finish at 16:00. (For the Mock Exams 15:00)

4 What is expected of Students?
Arrive on time to school everyday! …and turn up on time to HomeRoom. When not in the exam, they should be in their normal lessons but will be allowed to revise for subjects of their choice – a Teacher will be supervising. Must be at the exam room (next to Mr Barker’s office), 10mins before the exam. When not in an exam – revise! Seek help from teachers, be productive! Students should have a revision schedule for over the holidays.

5 Exam Rules Students should turn up, on time, with the correct equipment. No electronic devices other than a calculator Mobile phones in lockers –they cannot be handed in!!! No communication with anyone in the exam room except invigilators and the exam officer.

6 Exam Rules (For Students)
Once inside the exam room, go to your seat. Do not communicate or talk to anyone other than Mr Drew/Mr Barker, or an invigilator. Know your candidate number and seating position. Raise your hand if you have any questions Wait! Invigilators cannot answer questions about the content of the exam paper

7 What can Parents do to Help?
Let students have fun over the holiday, but… Make sure they are revising regularly. Try and go through a revision plan with them. What subjects do they have exams in? What are their most important ones? How much time, and what days will they devote to each one? What resources do they need to help? Make sure they take regular study breaks. Ensure they seek help as they need it.

8 Exam Timetable

9 Results Results will be released to students at the end of January.
They will not be as good as students (or parents) hope, or teachers know students are capable of. If students want good results, they should start planning and revising early. Parents will get results in a full report, at the start of February and then meet teachers in a consultation day shortly afterwards.

10 What Next After Mocks? Parent consultations
Discussion about what students need to do to improve! Discussion about plans for next year Students should put in place a revision/preparation plan to get there

11 Exam Entries Stage 1 (End December)– Candidate Entries. Students will need to check that their name is spelt correctly, date of birth is correct and that they are recorded as male/female correctly! Stage 2 (End of Jan) – Provisional Subject Entries. Heads of Faculty enter students for the exams and check entries. Stage 3 (By 14th Feb) – Following the mock results and parent consultation, changes can be made to entries / tiers of entry. Stage 4 (17th Feb) – Exam entries are finalised, no changes can be made after this date without parents incurring a cost.

12 Exam Entries - Costs Students will take between 6 and 10 IGCSE Subjects Each subject is charged to parents as 3,800THB Invoices will be sent to parents in the first week after Jan based on the expected entries for each student Due date will be 14th Feb 2017 Cost per child will be between 22,800 and 38,000THB

13 What about after Year 11? HeadStart Sixth-Form (Y12 and Y13)
Resit Year 11 – May not be possible Thai University – No Longer an Option Another School for IB programme GED?

14 The Old System of Matthayom Equivalency
Students needed to pass (gain a grade C) in any Five IGCSEs Students send an application to the MoE, along with their IGCSE Certificate and they will receive a ‘Matthayom 6 Certificate’ This means students could attend Thai University at the age of 16 and after the end of Year 11.

15 Changes – The New System!
Students must now pass (gain a grade C) in any Five IGCSEs AND… ‘Pass’ (gain a grade C) in any Three AS Levels (Taken in Y12) OR… ‘Pass’ (gain a grade C) in any Three A Levels (Taken in Y13) This means students cannot attend Thai Uni until after Year 12 This is effective after the end of 2016.

16 Implications for Thai Uni Applications
Students can no longer leave at the end of Year 11 and go directly to a Thai University They must also now at least complete Year 12 to gain Three AS Levels. If attending an IB School, they must complete Year 12 and Year 13. Students must also have passed Five IGCSEs!

18 HeadStart Sixth-Form - AS/A Levels
AS Levels in Year 12 leading to A Levels in Year 13 Cambridge AS/A Levels recognised by all major Universities throughout the world. High Level of Academic Rigour HeadStart is the only school on the island offering AS/A Levels 3 ‘A’ Levels sufficient to allow entry to UK, US and European Universities.

19 Specific AS/A Level Choices
Subjects currently offered: Maths English Chemistry Physics Biology Business Studies ICT Music Art Possible other subjects: French / Mandarin / History

20 Entrance Requirements
Students will choose 3 or 4 subjects out of a choice of 9 to study over 1 or 2 years. They should have achieved a ‘B’ grade in the subjects they which to study. They should have at least five C grades at iGCSE. We offer flexibility at management discretion on a case by case basis. They must be willing to at least match the time spent in lessons, in private study at home and through set assignments.

21 Benefits of HeadStart Sixth-Form
Students in Y12 have access to a ‘Sixth-Form’ common room. Small class sizes Personalised approach. Pool Table, relaxation area and study space. Timetable of approximately 5 hours per subject/week. Allows for additional private study time and enrichment activities.

Alongside the standard ASP program: PE / Sports sessions timetabled regularly International Award Program Access to the school gym/fitness suite

Parent Consultation (8th Feb) Discussion of suitable choices for exam entries with teachers (by 14th February) Students make provisional decisions of 3 to 4 subjects to study at AS Level (May/June) Start taster lessons in AS Subjects (June)

25 Summary Work hard / Play hard over Christmas Break
Students should come back refreshed, BUT Prepared Make sure students are revising regularly but with adequate breaks. Encourage them to communicate with teachers about problems or difficulties. Discuss future options with them and how they are going to get there. If staying with HeadStart, start talking to teachers in February about choices of A Levels
