1. Improv: Let’s go on a picnic and take….
Take turns suggesting things you could do or take along on the picnic, but kill every idea your partner comes up with. Engage with the idea and truly kill it. Try starting with “No…” and point out why it is so bad.

2. Game II
Start again, but this time accept every idea your partner comes up with, but with no enthusiasm. You may be a bit distracted or blah. You will accept their ideas without adding much to it. Try starting with “Yeah, I guess…”

3. Game III
Start once again, but this time accept everything the person speaking suggests with great enthusiasm, as if no better suggestion could have been made and then build on the suggestion. Try starting each response you make with “Yes, and….”

4. Game IV
Start our Picnic conversation once again. This time show understanding for the speaker’s suggestion, BUT then explain why you disagree with the suggestion. Try starting each response you make with “Yes, I understand that x and y…but….” Do it again with a new partner.

5. Discuss in Pairs and Share
Who would you want to go with most? The “No,” “I guess,” “Yes, And!” or “Yes, But” What can we learn about the actual process of agreeing and disagreeing from this game?
