When is the Marshall Library open?
Day Term Vacation Monday - Friday 9am – 9pm 9am – 5pm Saturday 11am – 5pm Closed Sunday 1pm – 5pm (Easter Term only)

Please note … Warning bells ring 15 & 5 minutes before the library closes Access by University Card : Weekday evenings (4.30 – 9pm) Saturday (11am-5pm) Sunday (1-5pm, Easter Term)

What are the main categories of books?
Short Loan : Text books on Undergraduate / MPhil reading lists – located on the first & second floors of the reading room. Open Shelf : Located on the first & second floors of the reading room.

Reference: Non-borrowable & shelved with Open Shelf books in the library reading room
Basement : Borrowable but shelved in closed stacks in library basement. These may be requested online from the library catalogue or at the Issue Desk

How many books can PhD students borrow, for how long & what fines are charged?
15 Book category Loan Duration Overdue Charges Short Loan 28 days (renewable) 50p per day (£1 if requested) Open Shelf 25p per day (50p if requested) Basement Could add more books if needed. Staff can override system at desk

How do you return books? At the Issue Desk … … Or to the Book Drop which is open whenever the Library is closed OR after 4.30pm weekdays and throughout the weekend

Please note … You’ll receive an as soon as your book is available to collect You can also cancel any requests online that you decide you no longer need Items on hold won’t be kept for you indefinitely Overdue charges double if requested items aren’t returned by the specified time If you have two requested overdue items your account is automatically blocked

What is iDiscover? A single interface allowing you to search the University’s libraries print & online collections. You can log into it to manage your loans, requests, fines & saved search results. What are you searching? The catalogues of physical items in most University libraries Subscribed eresources including ebooks, journals, databases, open access items in the University’s institutional repository and electronic legal deposit.

Reading Lists CORE READINGS - week by week or topic by topic. We will buy sufficient copies of textbooks according to student numbers. eCOUNTER ITEMS (digitised readings) KEY CHAPTERS & JOURNAL ARTICLES. We are able to digitise up to 5% or a single chapter, whichever is greater. If you want to use online working papers or a specific electronic article we can advise you on how to make stable links for your core readings. FURTHER READINGS & BACKGROUND READINGS OR BIBLIOGRAPHY If you share further reading lists during the course via lecture slides, for example, please send an to the Marshall Library
