12 What shaped Gladstone? Your task is to represent the seven different stages of Gladstone’s early career as a bag (as there is a “Gladstone Bag”) and explain under each box why you have represented him in this way. You should think about how Gladstone’s personality could be best shaped - if he is traditional or a reformer; fashionable or practical; Liberal or Conservative. Think about the design and pattern that would be on the bag as well. For example, during his early years in parliament, he was a conservative, so students could decide to utilise a briefcase as this is traditionally a conservative way of carrying items.
