Welcome to House of Israel’s Shavuot (Pentecost) Service Chag Sameach
Thank you for joining us.
2
A Word about the Annual Moadim The Difference between a Moed and a Chag Moed = Appointed Time, appointment Chag = Pilgrimage (Festival), to dance, celebrate Linguistically related to Arabic hajj (the pilgrimage to Mecca), the Hebrew chag refers to a pilgrimage – a time to “go up” to present ourselves before Yahuwah There are 3 annual Chaggim, but 7 Annual Moadim Chag is only used of the three pilgrimages (except Ex 34:25 where is it used of Pesach)
3
Chag Shavuot Three times a year all your men must appear before Yahuwah your Elohim at the place he will choose: at the Pilgrimage Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Pilgrimage Feast of Weeks and the Pilgrimage Feast of Tabernacles. No man should appear before Yahuwah empty-handed. Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way Yahuwah your Elohim has blessed you. (Deuteronomy 16:16)
4
Shavuot The word translated “weeks” in Hebrew is shavuot. From the word shavua (singular noun for “seven” or “week”) the plural of shavua is shavuot. All regular Hebrew feminine nouns in the plural have the “ot” ending. This is the form it is always found in the Hebrew text when talking about the “Feast of Weeks” (it is never called the “feast of week” – chag shavua - in any of the Hebrew manuscripts)
5
Occurrences of “Shavuot” (“weeks” - Hebrew ‘t[obuv') in the Torah
Exodus 34:22 Leviticus 23:15 Numbers 28:26 Deuteronomy 16:9,10,16
6
Shavuot The Feast of Weeks is also called:
Feast of Harvest (Exodus 23:16) Pentecost (Greek – Acts 2:1)
7
Going Up But you are to seek the place Yahuwah your Elohim will choose from among all your tribes to put his Name there for his dwelling. To that place you must go; there bring your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts, what you have vowed to give and your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks. There, in the presence of Yahuwah your Elohim, you and your families shall eat and shall rejoice in everything you have put your hand to, because Yahuwah your Elohim has blessed you. (Devarim 12:5-7)
8
Rejoice During the Chag Shavuot
Count off seven weeks from the time you begin to put the sickle to the standing grain. Then celebrate the Feast of Weeks (chag shavuot) to Yahuwah your Elohim by giving a freewill offering in proportion to the blessings Yahuwah your Elohim has given you. And rejoice before Yahuwah your Elohim at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name-- you, your sons and daughters, your menservants and maidservants, the Levites in your towns, and the aliens, the fatherless and the widows living among you. Remember that you were slaves in Mitzrayim, and follow carefully these decrees. (Devarim 16:9-12)

10
What Happened at Shavuot?
Milestone Events Both In Heaven and On Earth
11
A Parable of Yeshua He said to them, "Therefore every teacher of the law who has been instructed about the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.“ (Matthew 13:52)
12
Shavuot Vayiqra [Leviticus] 23:15-16:
You must count for yourselves seven weeks (shavuot) from the day after the Sabbath, from the day you bring the wave offering sheaf; they must be complete weeks. You must count fifty days--until the day after the seventh Sabbath--and then you must present a new grain offering to Yahuwah.
13
Instructions For Shavuot
From the places where you live you must bring two loaves of bread for a wave offering; they must be made from two tenths of an ephah of fine wheat flour, baked with leaven, as first fruits to Yahuwah. Along with the loaves of bread, you must also present seven flawless yearling lambs, one young bull, and two rams. They are to be a burnt offering to Yahuwah along with their grain offering and drink offerings, a gift of a soothing aroma to Yahuwah. (Vayiqra [Leviticus] 23:17-19).
14
Instructions For Shavuot
You must also offer one male goat for a sin offering and two yearling lambs for a peace offering sacrifice, and the priest is to wave them--the two lambs--along with the bread of the first fruits, as a wave offering before Yahuwah; they will be set-apart to Yahuwah for the priest. On that same day you are to proclaim a set apart assembly and do no regular work. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live (Vayiqra [Leviticus] 23:20-21).
15
Miqra Qodesh The Hebrew word ar'q.mi is pronounced miqra and means convocation; convoking, reading, sacred assembly. We are commanded to set this day apart and to proclaim a holy assembly. This assembly is for the purpose of reading and proclaiming this appointment day and its significance for those assembled to stand before and worship Yahuwah.
16
Appearing Before Yahuwah
Three times a year all your men must appear before Yahuwah your Elohim at the place he will choose: at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Weeks and the Feast of Tabernacles. No man should appear before Yahuwah empty-handed: Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way Yahuwah your Elohim has blessed you. (Deuteronomy 16:16-17)
17
Shavuot in the Wilderness
In the third month after the sons of Yisrael went out from the land of Egypt, on the very day, they came to the Desert of Sinai. After they journeyed from Rephidim, they came to the Desert of Sinai, and they camped in the desert; Yisrael camped there in front of the mountain. (Exodus 19:1-3)
18
Mosheh went up to Elohim, and Yahuwah called to him from the mountain, "Thus you will say to the house of Ya'acov, and declare to the people of Yisrael: 'You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I lifted you up on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. And now, if you will diligently obey me and keep my covenant, then you will be my special possession out of all the nations, for all the earth is mine. And you will be my kingdom of priests and a set-apart nation.' These are the words that you will speak to the sons of Yisrael."(Shemot 19:3-6).
19
So Mosheh went back and summoned the elders of the people and set before them all the words Yahuwah had commanded him to speak. The people all responded together, "We will do everything Yahuwah has said." So Mosheh brought their answer back to Yahuwah. (Shemot 19:7-8)
20
Yahuwah said to Mosheh, "I am going to come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people will hear me speaking with you and will always put their trust in you." Then Mosheh told Yahuwah what the people had said. And Yahuwah said to Mosheh, "Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Have them wash their clothes and be ready by the third day, because on that day Yahuwah will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. (Shemot 19:9-11)
21
On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast. Everyone in the camp trembled. Then Mosheh led the people out of the camp to meet with Elohim, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because Yahuwah descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, the whole mountain trembled violently, and the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder. Then Mosheh spoke and the voice of Elohim answered him. (Shemot 19:16-19)
22
The Voice of Elohim Spoke to the People
The Ten Words (Laws – chukot) – Ex 20:1-17 A Few more laws – Ex 20:18-26 The Right Rulings (mishpatim) –Ex 21-23 Mosheh Tells the People These Laws – Ex 24:3-4 - When Mosheh went and told the people all Yahuwah's words and laws, they responded with one voice, "Everything Yahuwah has said we will do." Mosheh then wrote down everything Yahuwah had said.
23
Summary of Mt Sinai Shavuot
Covenant between Yahuwah and his people ratified. This covenant consisted of the agreement of the people to faithfully obey all his laws and Elohim would take care of all their needs.
24
Fast Forward to the Days Following Yeshua’s Resurrection
25
What Happened Here on Earth?
Acts 2 Shavuot What Happened Here on Earth? When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. (Acts 2:1-4)
26
Similarities Between Sinai Shavuot and Acts 2 Shavuot
All gathered at foot of Mt Sinai – An appointed time of assembly All gathered in one place (temple) – An appointed time of assembly There were voices (thunderings) Ex 19:16 and lightnings There were tongues (voices, sounds) and fires Acts 2:3 Righteous Instructions Given as terms of the Covenant Holy Spirit Given to Move His People to Obey His Instructions (per Ezekiel’s prophesies) A Covenant ratified A Renewed Covenant ratified
27
How Was the Giving of the Spirit at Pentecost Different From the Spirit Being in People Before?
Individual prophets, priests and kings enjoyed the anointing of the Spirit Peter exhibited the influence of the Spirit Yeshua breathed into the disciples – 4th Gospel 20:21-23
28
Yoel 2:28-29 And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people
Yoel 2:28-29 And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. This “pouring out of the Spirit on all people” is indicative of the fulfilment of the prophetic utterance that Elohim would establish a renewed covenant with his people
29
A Promised New Covenant
"Indeed, a time is coming," says Yahuwah, "when I will make a new agreement with the people of Yisrael and Yehudah. It will not be like the old agreement that I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand and led them out of Egypt. For they violated that agreement, even though I was a faithful husband to them," says Yahuwah. "But I will make a new agreement with the whole nation of Yisrael after I plant them back in the land," says Yahuwah. "I will put my Instruction within them and write it on their hearts and minds. And I will be their Elohim and they will be my people. (Yirmyahu 31:31-34)
30
What Was the Spirit in Man to Accomplish?
I will give them one heart and I will put a new Spirit within them; I will remove the heart of stone from their bodies and I will give them a heart of flesh, so that they may obey my rules (Hebrew, "chukot") and keep my right-rulings (Hebrew, "mishpatim") and observe them. Then they will be my people, and I will be their Elohim. (Yechezqel 11:19-20).
31
"'I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries; then I will bring you to your land. I will sprinkle you with pure water and you will be clean from all your impurities. I will purify you from all your idols. I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will remove the heart of stone from your body and give you a heart of flesh. I will put my Spirit within you; I will cause you to walk in my rules (Hebrew, "chukot") and carefully observe my right-rulings (Hebrew, "mishpatim"). Then you will live in the land I gave to your fathers; you will be my people, and I will be your Elohim. I will save you from all your uncleanness (Yechezqel 36:24-29).
32
Yeshua Promised to Send His Spirit
"If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever--17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. (4th Gospel 14:15-19)
33
Yeshua to Send His Spirit
20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him." 22 Then Yehudah (not Yehudah Iscariot) said, "But, Master, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?" 23 Yahusha replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. (4th Gospel 14:20-23)
34
Yeshua to Send His Spirit
24 He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. 25 All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." (4th Gospel 14:24-26)
35
What Happened Up in Heaven at Shavuot?
36
Exalted to the right hand of Elohim, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, "'Yahuwah said to my Master: "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." (Acts 2:33-35)
37
Psalm 110:1-4 Of David. A psalm
Psalm 110:1-4 Of David. A psalm. Yahuwah says to my master: "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." Yahuwah will extend your mighty scepter from Zion; you will rule in the midst of your enemies. Your troops will be willing on your day of battle. Arrayed in holy majesty, from the womb of the dawn you will receive the dew of your youth. Yahuwah has sworn and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."
38
Something Happened in Heaven that Precipitated the Giving of the Holy Spirit that Peter Explains from Psalm 110 "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." Yahuwah has sworn and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.“ Yeshua appointed King and Priest
39
How Did Peter Know What Had Happened in Heaven
How Did Peter Know What Had Happened in Heaven? Surely Yeshua taught them this. Acts 1: In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Yahusha began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of Elohim.
40
Anointed Ones Prophets, priests, kings
Abraham, Gen 20:7 anointed prophet Aharon and sons anointed priests Shaul, David, and others anointed kings Gad, Nathan (David’s prophets) Yeshua anointed Prophet, King and Priest What about you?
41
Are You Anointed? But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. (1John 2:20) As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit-- just as it has taught you, remain in him. (1 John 2:27)
42
Entering Into Heaven Itself
Can a man approach Elohim who is not a priest? For Messiah did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in Elohim's presence. (Hebrews 9:24)
43
The High Priest Every high priest is selected from among men and is appointed to represent them in matters related to Elohim, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness. This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people. (Hebrews 5:1-3)
44
The High Priest No one takes this honor upon himself; he must be called by Elohim, just as Aharon was. So Messiah also did not take upon himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But Elohim said to him, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father.“ [Psalm 2:7] And he says in another place, "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek." [Psalm 110:4] (Hebrews 5:4-6)
45
The High Priest During the days of Yahusha's life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by Elohim to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek. (Hebrews 5:7-10)
46
A Sharp Rebuke We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of Elohim's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. (Hebrews 5:11-14)
47
Yeshua is Our High Priest
Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Yahusha, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. (Hebrews 3:1)
48
A Promise of the Sinai Covenant
Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' (Exodus 19:5-6)
49
The High Priest During the days of Yahusha's life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by Elohim to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek. (Hebrews 5:7-10)
50
We are a Holy Priesthood
We are a Holy Priesthood! As you come to him, the living Stone-- rejected by men but chosen by Elohim and precious to him-- you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to Elohim through Yahusha Messiah. (1 Peter 2:4-5)
51
We Are a Royal Priesthood
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to Elohim, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of Elohim; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. (1 Peter 2:9-10)
52
Spiritual Sacrifices Present your bodies a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1) Your gifts are an acceptable sacrifice (Philippians 4:18) A sacrifice of praise (Hebrews 13:15)
53
Melchizedek Received the Tithe
This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of Elohim Most High. He met Avraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, 2 and Avraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, his name means "king of righteousness"; then also, "king of Salem" means "king of peace." 3 Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, like the Son of Elohim he remains a priest forever. 4 Just think how great he was: Even the patriarch Avraham gave him a tenth of the plunder! (Hebrews 7:1-4)
54
Malki-Zedek is Greater than Lewi
Just think how great he was: Even the patriarch Avraham gave him a tenth of the plunder! 5 Now the law requires the descendants of Levi who become priests to collect a tenth from the people-- that is, their brothers-- even though their brothers are descended from Avraham. 6 This man, however, did not trace his descent from Levi, yet he collected a tenth from Avraham and blessed him who had the promises. (Hebrews 7:4-6)
55
What About Tithing? The Torah instructs us to tithe to Levi. But the Torah also speaks of the patriarchs tithing to a different order of priesthood – that of Melkizedek. Melkizedek is a higher order of Priesthood and supersedes Levi because it came first. Yeshua is of that higher order. Since the Levitical priesthood is not now in operation, we look to a priesthood that is fully operational today. We tithe to Yeshua’s priesthood just as the patriarchs did and this is in full compliance with the Torah!
56
We are Ministers of the Priesthood of Yeshua
I have written you quite boldly on some points, as if to remind you of them again, because of the grace Elohim gave me to be a minister of Messiah Yahusha to the Gentiles with the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of Elohim, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to Elohim, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. Therefore I glory in Messiah Yahusha in my service to Elohim. (Romans 15:15-17)
57
Shavuot – A Summary The first Shavuot was the occasion of the Covenant being ratified at Mt Sinai. The later Shavuot was the occasion when Yeshua was seated at the right hand of the Father as King and Priest, ratifying the Renewed Covenant by his own blood. This was manifested on earth with the Spirit being given to men.
