2 Overview Primary Traits-Character Ethic which success is attributed more to underlying characteristics such as integrity, courage, justice and patience. Secondary Traits- Personality Ethic- skills, techniques, and maintaining a positive attitude.

3 The steps Dependence: Relying on others to take care of us
Independence: we can make our own decisions and take care of ourselves Interdependence: we can cooperate to achieve something that cannot be achieved independently.

4 Be proactive Assessing the situation and developing a positive response for it. Proactive people are driven by values that are independent of the weather or how people treat them. Use difficult situations to help build character

5 Begin with the end in mind
Each day of your life contributes in a meaningful way to the vision you have of you life as a whole.

6 Put first thing first Effective management
Organize and execute around priorities Theory , calendars and appointments and efficient scheduling (control of time)

7 Private Victory precedes Public Victory

8 Think win-win Seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions
All parties feel good about the decesion and feel committed to the action Its not your way or my way it’s a better way or higher way

9 Seek first to understand and then to be understood
Listening – to understand enables you to influence I must open up with you- empathic listening Build emotional bank accounts

10 synergize The whole is greater than sum of its parts
Value differences- to respect them, build on strengths and compensate for weakness Closely Trust is related to communication – Defensive-low, respectful-compromise, win/win synergy

11 Sharpen the saw Renewal – Physical, mental, spiritual and social/emotional Pg. 288 Exercising all four dimensions regularly and consistently in wise and balanced ways

12 Inside-Out Again Gap between Stimulus and Response and key to both growth and happiness is how we use that space.
