2 Divisibility First 8 Prime Numbers Prime/Composite? Divisibility Rules
Factor Multiple

3 Divisibility There are 6,550 voters in Scott County. Each district in the county has the exact same number of voters. How many districts could there be in the county?

4 Divisibility Saranya is arranging dolls on shelves at a toy store. She has 80 dolls to arrange. She needs to put the same number of dolls on each shelf, and she needs to use all of the dolls. How many shelves could Saranya use for the dolls?

7 Divisibility There are 5,508 paper clips in the boxes in the supply cabinet. If each box contains the same number of paper clips, how many boxes could there be? 5 10 4

8 GCF and LCM Find the GCF and LCM of a set of data

9 GCF or LCM Joe goes to the grocery store every 6 days and visits the gym every 10 days. If he did both errands today, how many days will pass before he does both on the same day again?

10 GCF or LCM A club has 12 girls and 9 boys as members. The president wants to break the club into groups, with each group containing the same combination of girls and boys. The president also wants to make sure that no one is left out. What is the greatest number of groups the president can make?

11 GCF or LCM The Newman Corporation would like to donate 12 computers and 18 printers to local schools. The corporation would like to make sure that each school receives the same set of computers and printers, with none left over. What is the greatest number of schools that The Newman Corporation can donate to?

12 GCF or LCM Amy's Bath Shop sells bars of soap in boxes of 9 bars and bottles of soap in boxes of 7 bottles. An employee is surprised to discover that the shop sold the same number of bars and bottles last week. What is the smallest number of each type of soap that the shop could have sold?

13 GCF or LCM Melody has two pieces of wire, one 14 feet long and the other 4 feet long. If she wants to cut them up to produce many pieces of wire that are all of the same length, with no wire left over, what is the greatest length, in feet, that she can make them?

14 GCF or LCM Marvin's Apparel sells undershirts in packs of 11. The store's competitor, Amy's Basics, sells undershirts in packs of 2. If both stores sold the same number of undershirts yesterday, what is the smallest number of undershirts each could have sold?

15 GCF or LCM Irene and her friends made dinner reservations at two local restaurants on two different days. While the first restaurant sat all the friends in groups of 11, the second restaurant sat all the friends in groups of 9. What is the smallest number of people that could be in the group?

22 Integers Mt. Everest, the highest elevation in Asia, is 29,028 feet above sea level. The Dead Sea, the lowest elevation, is 1,312 feet below sea level. What is the difference between these two elevations?

23 Integers In Buffalo, New York, the temperature was -14°F in the morning. If the temperature dropped 7°F, what is the temperature now?

24 Integers A submarine was situated 800 feet below sea level. If it ascends 250 feet, what is its new position?

25 Integers Maggie owes the candy store $35. Each of 5 friends will help her pay off her debt. How much will each friend pay?

29 Integers Metal mercury at room temperature is a liquid. Its melting point is -39°C. The freezing point of alcohol is -114°C. How much warmer is the melting point of mercury than the freezing point of alcohol?

30 What is claim, data, warrant?
Claim, data, warrant (CDW) is a formal and analytical writing style. CDW helps you prove your thoughts using evidence. It can be used for answering open response questions, discussion questions, or writing essays. You can use it in any class. 30

31 Claim What you are claiming is true Your opinion about the subject
Your answer to the question Often the topic sentence of a paragraph Very much like a hypothesis 31

32 Data The evidence or the facts you use to support your claim
Examples to support your claim Quotes from the text to support the claim References to the text supporting your claim Statistics supporting the claim Content specific vocabulary that supports the claim 32

33 Warrant The explanation of how the data supports your claim
Explains how the example, statistic, quote or reference supports the claim Explains the significance of the data Usually three to five sentences long 33

34 Easy Example Claim: BCMS has an excellent after-school program.
Data: We offer archery, art, and cooking classes along with tutoring in all core subject areas. Warrant: Archery helps students develop strength, focus, and confidence. Art allows students to tap into their creativity, and cooking teaches students to be self-sufficient. Tutoring classes reinforce students’ academic skills. 34

35 Color-coding your answers
Claim is highlighted in pink. Data is highlighted in green. Warrant is highlighted in yellow. 35

36 Example BCMS has an excellent after-school program. We offer archery, art, and cooking classes along with tutoring in all core subject areas. Archery helps students develop strength, focus, and confidence. Art allows students to tap into their creativity, and cooking teaches students to be self-sufficient. Tutoring classes reinforce students’ academic skills. 36

37 Things to remember: The order of claim, data, warrant may not be the same for every open response. Sometimes you may give the data first and then write the claim and warrant. Occasionally open responses may only require you to include data and warrant in your response. 37

38 Math Example Samantha made the following scores on unit tests for the term: 92, 98, 15, 92, 87, 92. Samantha’s teacher said her grade would be based on the mean of her grades. Samantha argued that her grade should be based on the median score of her grades. A. Find the mean and median of Samantha’s grades. B. Which do you think best reflects Samantha’s work for the term? Explain your answer. 38

39 Part A of this response includes both claim and data
Part A of this response includes both claim and data. Your answer is your claim because it is what you are asserting to be true. The work is the data or evidence you are using to support your claim. 92 98 15 Mean 87 + 92 476 A. The mean of Samantha’s grades is about 79.3 The median of Samantha’s grades is about 92. Median 39

40 Part B contains claim and warrant
Part B contains claim and warrant. This first sentence is your opinion about what is best. Remember your opinion is a claim, and the remainder of the paragraph is your explanation of why you think this is the best way to represent Samantha’s work. Explanation is always warrant. B. I think the median best reflects Samantha’s work. This is because except for two low grades none of her grades was below 92. The 87, which is really fairly high, and the 15 bring the total score down considerably, and although these grades are important, they don’t fairly represent Samantha’s work considering the damage they do to her scores. 40

41 A. The mean of Samantha’s grades is about 79.3
The median of Samantha’s grades is about 92. 92 98 15 Mean 87 +92 476 Median B. I think the median best reflects Samantha’s work. This is because except for two low grades none of her grades was below 92. The 87, which is really fairly high, and the 15 bring the total score down considerably, and although these grades are important, they don’t fairly represent Samantha’s work considering the damage they do to her scores. 41
