The earth
2
3d Structure of the earth.
3
Crust less dense than what is below it. Etc…
Mohorovicic Discontinuity (Moho) – where the density increases at the bottom of the crust. Boundary between the lithosphere and aesthenosphere Note, reverse topography at bottom of crust.
4
Note relative thicknesses of the crust
Note relative thicknesses of the crust. Also note that the lithosphere includes the crust and a bit of the upper mantle.
6
Oceanic crust Oceanic (mafic) rocks. Continental (felsic) rocks
Denser than felsics Darker colored Less silica, more iron/Mg basalt Continental (felsic) rocks Lighter than mafics Lighter colored More silica, less iron/Mg. Granite
7
Plate tectonics The crust of the earth is, basically, a bunch of pieces floating around on the asthenosphere. These plates interact, forming surface topography - an excellent overview of plate tectonics. Might be a good thing to read while studying.

Continent – continent convergence
