This presentation is not detailed training Attempt to convey general functionality and applicability Does not prescribe design recommendations
5
What are Attributes?
6
Item Attribute Specific trait that is used to partially define the uniqueness of an Item (Form, Fit and Function) The value for this trait is fixed for a specific Item Number. It does not change on a lot, supplier, or customer basis. Easy to think of as extensions to the standard Item Master fields (Type, Group, etc.)
7
Item Lot Attribute Specific trait that is measured or tracked within a specific Lot of a specific Item Number The value for this trait is variable on a lot-by-lot basis The attribute may have specific allowable values (Range, List, Min/Max, etc.) Conformance Customer Acceptance Basis for Quality Testing during Receipt Transactions
8
Quick Summary Unlimited flexibility in expanding the available Item Master fields (Item Attribute) Ability to track as many Lot specific traits as required. Beyond Grade, Assay, etc. Note: Item Lot Attributes are not stored in the same tables as Grade, Assay, etc. Lot Attributes integrated with transactions to ensure conformance
9
Set the Scenario Ultimate goal is to show how attributes can be used in a Make-To-Order environment. Product: Thermoform Plant Containers Key Quality Conformance Attribute: Gauge between .050 and .100 Track use of Regrind % in each Lot Customer Requirement: Will not accept > 50% Regrind in product
10
Required Setups
11
Item Attribute Control
Define the initial status when adding a new Attribute to an item’s profile Define the default status for a Lot that has non-conforming Attributes Determine whether results are entered “blind” or if the specification is shown to the user Will the Reference field be used for sub-lot?
12
Label Master Maintenance
All Attributes reference a Label Master record Determines how attributes display on screens, reports, and certificates.
13
Maintain Item Attributes
Note that the IAQ programs are browse collection driven. Click on Create or Modify to maintain the attributes Attribute ID can be manually assign or assigned via NRM Datatype – reference the look-up browse Use Format to further refine. Example: length of a character field, number of places to left and right of decimal Label Term – used for display on screens, reports, etc. Select or create through the look-up browse if not pre-existing.
14
Maintain Item Profile Enter the Item Number whose profile is being maintained Site must initially be blank. Site specific profiles may be added later. Check to select an existing Item Profile to copy from. This will add to any existing profile for the item being maintained Initiate through the Maintain Item Profile View. Note browse on the left hand portion of the screen Click on Create to make a new Profile Site – initially leave blank. Site specific profiles can only be entered after the blank site record is created. Save record and return to the browse
15
Maintain Item Profile This section of the browse populated by creating the Item Profile This section of the browse populated by selecting Create and adding Attributes to the Profile
16
Maintain Item Profile Select the Attribute to add to the Item Profile
Sequence determines the order in which the user will be prompted for entry Level – Item, Lot, or Sub-Lot
17
Impact of Specification Type
None Greater Than Min Max Value Less Than Tolerance Value (Based on Defined Target) Membership (character only) Rule Expression

Maintain Item Customer Profile
20
Creating Orders Sales Order Maintenance Work Order Maintenance
Customer Profile Attributes copied at the line level Work Order Maintenance Create Work Order to support the Sales Order line Initially, only the Item Attributes are copied into Work Order Profile Must relate the Sales Order to Work Order in Maintain Work Order Profile
21
Maintain Work Order Profile
After creating Sales Order and Work Order, relate them together. Work Order is then updated to the Customer / SO Profile
22
Transaction Processing
23
Report Actuals at Receipt
Three points of data entry Receipt Transactions PO Receiving WO Receiving Repetitive Receiving Receipts Unplanned Lot Attribute Orders created by receipt transactions Quality Orders when there are test specifications
24
Work Order Receipt Scroll through the attributes and enter actual results. Enter actual value. Once saved, lot will show as conforming or be assigned the non-conforming status code
25
Monitor Material for Sales
26
Monitor Material for Sales
Open Sales Order Browse Select Available to Allocate tab to see inventory lots and conformance at the Item Profile level Detail browse shows conformance to the Customer’s Item Attribute Profile
27
Monitor Material for Sales
Manually allocate inventory lots to specific Sales Order based on Conformance
28
Just scratched the surface…
Site specific Profiles Supplier Item Profiles SO and PO Line Profiles WO Component Profiles Lot Attribute Orders Quality Orders Certificates of Analysis Considerable Browses and Collections
29
One last comment… Design is critical
Item vs. Lot Attribute and the impact on Item Numbers Form, Fit, and Function Balance overhead of Item Number creation vs. resulting ERP functionality MRP Inventory Control Allocations and Picking Costing / Pricing
