Explain the difference between short term, long term, & Immediate goals Identify your own goals by using the SMART method

2 The Purpose of Goals To give you something that you want.
To enhance your life in some way.

3 Types of Goals Long Term Goals: 1 year and beyond
Short Term Goals: 2 to 11 months Immediate Goals: 1-30 days

To help define your goals What are my dreams for the future? What do I want to be? Why am I attending college?

5 Motivation the drive within you to accomplish a goal or task
drive that comes from someone else or an external stimulus

6 Smart Goal Setting Specific Measurable Action Orientated
Realistic and relevant Time Based Smart goal setting is an excellent way to stay on task and to complete your goals!

7 Specific Goals should be clear and to the point.

8 Measurable You should be able to answer very specifically, when and how you will know you attained your goal. A measurable goal provides a time frame and a foreseeable outcome.

9 Achievable Goals must be achievable
Too high, you will not be able to achieve them Too low, you might not gain satisfaction

10 REALISTIC Must be relevant & important to you Challenging yourself
You want to aim high

Lowers stress and anxiety Concentrate better Show more self-confidence Perform better

13 Goal Setting Tips: Write down your goals.
Put them where you can see them. Reward yourself for accomplishing your goals.

14 Why Goals Fail Not written down. No rewards
Unrealistic or not specific enough. Not believable or little commitment. Keep changing goals Don’t have support.
