1 The Law school application process
UNR phi alpha delta September 19th, 2017

2 When should I start? Let’s pretend everyone is living by UNR’s wildest dreams and abiding by 15 to Finish: Take LSAT junior year (first try by June) Gather letters of rec/legal resume/personal statement in Summer/Fall before senior year Apply fall of senior year for acceptances for next law school year

3 The Lsat More in-depth presentation in a few weeks
Required by 98.5% of law schools; don’t let the GRE clickbait headlines distract you Consists of five 35-minute sections of multiple choice questions, followed by a 35-minute unscored writing sample Broken into: analytical reasoning (better known as logic games), logical reasoning and reading comprehension

4 The LSAT Must be taken by December for admission for the following fall Keep in mind, December is the deadline; take earlier for chances of retakes, and you also can’t apply early admission to schools Average recommended time to study is hours; or, in perspective, 2-3 months at around hours a week

5 Credential assembly service
Required by all ABA-approved law schools to apply Purchased through LSAC Essentially turns all your law school apps into a single, digital application that you can send to multiple schools

6 Letters of Recommendation
On average, you need two letters Should be written by people who know you well enough to describe your academic, personal, or professional achievements and potential with candor, detail and objectivity Three categories of letters: Program/Specialty-Specific References School-Specific References General References

7 Personal Statement Don’t just talk about your achievements; that’s what your resume is for Some law schools will give you a topic, however, most will let you write about what you want Focus on what sets you apart (unless you’re doing a diversity statement) Aim for two pages, double spaced

8 Legal Resume Go to the Career Studio!
Up to 2 ½ pages of everything significant and relevant to law school… not anything that has to be legal Honors, awards, scholarships, extra-curricular activities (like PAD!), etc. No template, no fancy fonts, just purely functional Use it to showcase your skills

9 Transcripts LSAC will recalculate your GPA, according to their own formula LSAC formulates this into an academic summary report to send to all law schools $35 each, not including application fee

10 509s Easiest way to learn about your law school
Mandatory for all ABA accredited law schools.. Gives you the real facts about their program Average amounts of debt Amounts of minority students Number of applicants allowed in
