6 Getting your basic license

16 Examination Permit Restrictions
No driving between 12:01 am and 5:00 am No cell phones, hand-held video games or other electronics Must have supervising adult in front seat Must be at least 21 years old Have a valid NJ drivers license At least 3 years driving experience Passengers must be from drivers household and only one other Driver and all passengers must wear a seat belt

17 Provisional Driver License Restrictions
No driving between 12:01 am and 5:00 am No cell phones, hand-held video games or other electronics Passengers must be from drivers household and only one other Driver and all passengers must wear a seat belt If Exam permit or Provisional license holder is over 21 hour and passenger restrictions do not apply

18 GDL Driver Exemptions For the hour rule for permit or provisional drivers: Proof of a need to drive for employment or religion Note: if student driver commits a traffic offense, driver and supervisor are responsible Provisional up grade to basic (12 months)
