Suggested SCHOOL BASED MATHS PD 2017
School Based PD - all Mathematics teachers Lead by Maths HOD or SMT Every Monday afternoon from 2 – 4 pm Week Agenda 1 Discussing and sharing of LPs (LD), pedagogies & strategies (Lower Primary) 2 Discussing and sharing of LPs (LD), pedagogies & strategies (Upper Primary) 3 Micro Teaching (Both Lower & Upper Primary) or Research lesson in the morning 4 Post discussion (WWW, EBI and way forward)
6
Discussing and sharing of LPs (LD), pedagogies & strategies
List of questions which maybe helpful during discussion: Why did we choose to focus on this topic? What do students currently understand about this topic? What do we want our students to understand at the end of the lesson? How will students respond to the questions and activities in the lesson? What kind of thinking, problems, and misconceptions will arise, and how will we use these ideas and misconceptions to advance the lesson? What will make this lesson motivating and meaningful to students?

FEEDBACKS What Went Well in 2016 Even Better If
Year 6 PLC were more focus on issues that we all face in classroom. During PLC, presenters share about students learning difficulties, challenges and suggested several methods that they have tried and explain why/how it helps their students. Year 6 PLC also focus on words problem. One of the major challenge that all schools face. We have the opportunity to discuss our individual approaches when teaching words problem. Most teachers agreed that using bar models was the best strategy. Year 1-5 PLC were more on sharing ideas in creating interesting activities, games for students. They were able to learn from one another to create their own resources and have the opportunities to try out the activities themselves. PLC for Yr can be further improve beside creating resources, fun activities for learners if some date were set aside for discussion on real issues in class where teaching take place. Most of the issues and activities presented deal with multiplication and division skills. In future, we hope that PLC/PD will focus on other topics beside multiplication and division. Application of the strategies or methods shared during PD in the classroom Compilation of strategies or methods shared as part of SBC Maths resource bank

SHARED RESOURCE Cluster Resources
C1 - Numbers Part I & II, CPA YR 456 Maths Questions - Other areas to be done by C1 maths teachers as part of Cluster PD C2 - Resource portal C6 - GBR questions & resource portal Word wall strategy: A wall where teacher could highlight mathematical terms like share, double, twice, divided and so forth as a reference. Still need to emphasize mathematical terms, formulas, etc. Example: Word of the week: Average

Teaching dynamics: T & L OBSERVATION
Target: Yr 1 – Yr 6 Mathematics Teachers (recommended by school leader) To witness mathematics teaching & learning firsthand. To monitor that effective learning takes place. To develop a culture of continuous improvement through feedback. To ensure teachers use Concept based teaching: To ensure students’ thinking, communication, problem solving and reasoning skills are being enhanced LOWER PRIMARY UPPER PRIMARY Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract approach Problem solving approach LOWER PRIMARY UPPER PRIMARY Communication skills Mathematical thinking skills Reasoning skills Problem solving skills

Teaching dynamics: Assist Teaching
Target: Year 6 teachers To assist them in the classroom Focus on small group of students who need help in Mathematics When: Term 2
