3 History of the Britons:
History of the Britons was written in 830 A.D by Nennius. The Story or poem is about twelve battles fought by Arthur. In these twelve battles Arthur was a British general and Christian warrior not a king. This piece of of literature signifies the beginning of the legend mainly because it was not possible for one man to fight in all twelve battles marking the first signs of a legend. HL

4 The History of the Kings of Britain:
Written by Geoffrey of Monmouth around 1066 A.D. Geoffrey claimed that he had examined a “Lost” Celtic Manuscript that only he was able to obtain. This was the first story of Arthur from birth to death and the story had mentioned Caliburn for the first time (Caliburn was the famous sword known as Excalibur today). Over 200 Manuscripts still exist today. HL

5 The Story of the Grail: Written by Chrétien de Troyes in 1181 A.D. This was the first Arthurian story involving more spirituality and romance. The story of the grail was the first Arthurian story that the Holy Grail appears in. The Holy Grail was depicted in the story as Brilliant and precious capable of out shining candle light just as the sun does during daylight. Unfortunately, for unknown reasons, the poem was never finished. HL

6 Robert De Barron: Robert De Barron was a french poet who wrote a trilogy of stories in the 13th century; Joseph d’Arimathie, Merlin and Perceval. All stories tell of the early history of the grail. These three stories connected the grail and the independent legend of King Arthur into the Arthurian legend we know of today. HL

7 Le Mort D’arthur: Written by Thomas Malory in Le Mort D’arthur was one of the first books ever to be printed in England. Le Mort D’arthur creates a vision of a knightly golden age swept away by civil strife and the betrayal of its ideals. Malory’s book was also an influence in the Victorian Era. The Palace of Westminster, the medieval royal palace used as the home to British parliament, was widely damaged by a fire in After the repairs, Queen Victoria’s robing room in the house of the lords was decorated in Arthurian themes based from Malory’s book Le Mort D’arthur. HL

8 Arthur in the Modern Era:
