E-Standards for Training Creating and reusing resources that are accessible to most of your students most of the time What are “e-standards”: Technical standards are requirements that allow electronic content and tools to operate across platforms and systems. If you are developing or managing e-learning infrastructure and content, a standards-based approach can increase the number of learners and learning environments that can use or deploy your materials. E-learning Technical standards?
Technical standards are requirements that allow electronic content and tools to operate across platforms and systems. Enable your e-learning materials to be used anywhere by anyone Offset the cost of creating your materials by facilitating adaptation of your materials for different uses Increase the shelf-life of your materials and lower the ongoing costs for maintenance Allowing your materials to be accessed from an online repository for sharing, exchange or sale. If you are developing or managing e-learning infrastructure and content, a standards-based approach can increase the number of learners and learning environments that can use or deploy your materials. What functions do Standards Cover?
Accessibility Content Formats Content Packaging Intellectual Property Metadata Platforms Desktop Platforms Mobile Platforms Repositories Web Services Content has features or characteristics. They can be best summed up I think by asking a series of questions about the content I am creating reusing from another sources. Can my material be used by someone with a disability? Can my material be used by someone who has a computer with software/hardware configurations that are most commonly used by Australian students today? Content packaging standards – making sure you materials work different OS and LMS for example

Accessibility Perceivable Operable Understandable Robust
Provide text alternatives for non-text content. Provide captions and other alternatives for multimedia. Create content that can be presented in different ways, including by assistive technologies, without losing meaning. Make it easier for users to see and hear content. Operable Make all functionality available from a keyboard. Give users enough time to read and use content. Do not use content that causes seizures. Help users navigate and find content. Understandable Make text readable and understandable. Make content appear and operate in predictable ways. Help users avoid and correct mistakes. Robust Maximize compatibility with current and future user tools. The Australian Government has endorsed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.0 for all government websites WCAG 2.0 Level AA standard by December 2014.
