7
Creating a Cognos Watch Alert
Change the property of the report being watched for alert information. Ensure “Enable enhanced user features in saved output versions” is selected.
8
Creating a Cognos Watch Alert
When scheduling or running the report, the output delivery method needs to be a “Saved” output. When a report is executed as a “Saved” output, the following icon will appear beside the report property icon: When creating the Watch Alert Rule, highlight the data item in the saved report output and select the dropdown “Watch new versions” and select “Alert Using New Watch Rule”.
9
Creating a Cognos Watch Alert
Select the criteria for being alerted. Click Finish.
10
Creating a Cognos Watch Alert
If a watch rule needs to be modified, disabled or deleted, select the “My Area Options” dropdown and select “My Watch Items”. Then navigate to the Rules tab. The Rule can be modified through it’s Properties.

In addition, overall improvements to existing functionality!
Tableau 10.0 What’s New in Tableau 10.0? Data Design Analytics Web (Server) Mobile In addition, overall improvements to existing functionality!
16
Tableau 10.0 - Data Cross-database join
Database union (available in 9.3) New connectors including: Google Sheets, QuickBooks Online, Cisco Information Server, MemSQL, Kognito, Presto, and SAP Hana for Mac Notify on extract failure – to data source owner if the extract fails
17
Tableau 10.0 - Design Improved look and feel with new defaults:
New font New color palette Softened lines Workbook formatting – change style of entire workbook with one click Seamless inline titles
18
Tableau analytics Clustering – a new analytics tool allowing for quickly spotting trends and patterns Custom territories – create a group and then assign a geographic role based upon another field (e.g. zip code) Cross data source filters – apply a single filter across multiple data sources in a workbook Highlighter – similar to a filter, the highlighter tool allows interactive selection within views New bar charts – variable width bar, cascade, and Marimekko charts with mark sizing control Maps data updates
19
Tableau 10.0 – analytics (cont.)
Groups in calculations – can now use groups in LOD expressions and other calculations Table calculation updates – redesigned interface to improve usability LOD dimensionality – Use expressions directly within the dimension field of your LOD expression yielding quicker results without the need to create an additional calculated field.
20
Tableau 10.0 – web (server) Web authoring – create new workbooks and dashboards on the server! Data source analytics – know at a glance how your online data sources are getting used Revision history – track and potentially rollback to an older version of a workbook or data source Subscribe others – quickly subscribe others to your vizzes
21
Tableau mobile Android – Tableau mobile is now available for the Android Device Designer – design, customize and publish a single dashboard for multiple devices
22
Tableau 10.0 Coming soon… CeDAR plans to upgrade the Princeton Tableau Server in January.

Making Sense of Surveys
We’re constantly trying to assess our world. Surveys are one tool we can use but how do we make sense of and the most of the data we collect? Must appropriately prepare the data in order to make best use of the tool Benefits of using a strong visualization tool with survey data
25
Surveys – Data preparation
Typical survey data usually includes various types of questions Demographic questions (e.g. class year, department, gender, etc.) Yes / No / Maybe questions (e.g. did you intend to participate in the ‘x’ program) Likert Scale questions (rate strongly disagree, disagree, neither disagree nor agree, agree, or strongly agree) Check All That Apply questions In order to evaluate, the data needs to be “normalized” or flattened Tableau has an excel add-in that helps to format the data If extremely complex, there are other tools such as Alteryx Designer* * Note – this is not a sales pitch for a specific tool, only a mention of one possible solution.
26
Surveys - data Survey responses fall into two broad categories:
Dimensions Opinions or intensions Possible to connect survey data to other data sources based upon a common data element (e.g. netid)
27
Surveys – data sample Identify question types
Pivot data where necessary
28
Surveys – visualization tools
The visualization tool allows you to quickly explore possible relationships and the usefulness and significance of those relationships Build dashboards for different audiences Filtering Interactivity
29
Surveys - Yes / No / Maybe visualization
Sample of Yes / No / Maybe Select question(s)for display Compute and display results as percentage of total Show respondents’ feelings Work well when integrated with other survey questions
30
Surveys - Check-All-That-Apply visualization
Sample of Check All That Apply Select question for display Display count of responses or calculate percentage
31
Surveys - likert scale question visualization
Sample of a Likert visualization Considerations: Filter to a specific question Get a sense rating and how many made each selection Show overall sentiment
32
Surveys – analysis sample
Rename Dimensions Edit Aliases Create Calculated Fields

What is the Information Governance Catalog (IGC)?
Welcome to The IGC What is the Information Governance Catalog (IGC)? The IGC supports Information Governance. It is IBM’s premier metadata management tool.
37
The Three Pillars of Information Governance
Policies and Rules Enable Precise Communication of Governance Requirements Support for Information Accountability & Responsibility A Common Information Vocabulary
38
Policies and rules enable precise communication of governance requirements
Governance policies communicate the University’s governance requirements Governance rules implement policies by communicating and enforcing data quality requirements
39
Support for Information Accountability & Responsibility
Stewards of Information can be assigned to terms and information assets to provide a single point of contact.
40
A Common Information Vocabulary
Governance Categories and Terms Terms describe specific information assets i.e. Course ID, Primary Ethnicity, Work Order Actual Labor Hours Information assets (attributes) can be linked to the terms that describe them, i.e. Princeton Data Security classification Terms are classified within an hierarchical structure of categories, i.e. Student Records, Human Resources, Maximo 7.5
41
Current Category Hierarchy Prototype
42
Sub-category Hierarchy
The sub-categories under Metadata by Information Warehouse/Cognos Package currently include: Financial Aid Human Resources LearnDotCom Maximo 7.5 Student Records Undergraduate Admissions
43
Sub-categories under Learndotcom
The sub-categories under LearnDotCom currently include: Enrollments User Information
44
Learndotcom category If we select the LearnDotCom category the Category Details page opens: LearnDotCom Description Parent Category: Metadata by Information Warehouse/Cognos Package Subcategories: Enrollments User Information Terms: Course ID
45
Course ID Term Some attributes may be left undefined.
Term Details include (Attributes): Term Description Parent Category Referencing Categories General Information Princeton Data Security Level Associated Terms Assigned Assets i.e. the table in the IW that this data item comes from Other Attributes you want defined Some attributes may be left undefined.
46
Focus Group attendees needed!
We are looking for volunteers to help us develop our category structure in IGC.
47
Focus Group attendees needed!
Your suggestions and feedback would be appreciated. We want the IGC to meet your needs and exceed your expectations! We’ll provide lunch and brainstorm together. Please let us know now or by Friday if you’d like to be part of our focus group.
48
Importing Terms into the IGC
Using an Excel template Data Stewards will provide information about their terms. Term attributes can be added to the template as determined by the data steward. sample template
49
Using a .csv file to Import TErms
The completed Excel spreadsheet is also saved as a .CSV file and sent to CeDAR. A CeDAR staff member will import the file into the IGC.
50
Next Steps The focus group will meet.
When the categories are approved, we will begin loading terms. The spreadsheet is what will populate the IGC with the terms from the Information Warehouse.
51
We’ll be sending out more information about IGC in the coming months
