Galatians 6:10
2
The Spiritual Man Galatians 6:1 “Brethren, even if a man be overtaken in any trespass, ye who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to thyself, lest thou also be tempted.”
3
The Spiritual Man 1 Corinthians 2:14-15 “Now the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him; and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually judged. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, and he himself is judged of no man.”
4
Natural Man vs. Spiritual Man 1 Corinthians 2:14-15
Natural man- One who has confidence in the flesh (human wisdom). 1 Corinthians 1:12-13, 18ff; 2:3-5; 3:3-4 Glorifies self; jealousy, strife, contention (cf. James 3:14-16) Spiritual man- One who has confidence in God. Glorifies God; humility (Philippians 2:5-8); No confidence in the flesh (Philippians 3:1-15; 2 Corinthians 4:5; Ephesians 4:1-2; Galatians 2:20)
5
The Spiritual Man 1 Corinthians 3:1 “And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, as unto babes in Christ. I fed you with milk, not with meat; for ye were not yet able (to bear it): nay, not even now are ye able; for ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you jealousy and strife, are ye not carnal, and do ye not walk after the manner of men?” Galatians 5:20
6
To be spiritually minded is truly a matter of life and death!
The Spiritual Man Mind of the flesh (ASV) Romans 8:6-7 “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” KJV To be spiritually minded is truly a matter of life and death!

Two Men – James 3 Wisdom from above. James 3:17
Wisdom NOT from above. James 3:14-16 “Wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without variance, without hypocrisy.” “Bitter jealousy and faction in your heart, glory not and lie not against the truth… …but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where jealousy and faction are, there is confusion and every vile deed.”
8
Two Men – Galatians 5 Spirit Galatians 5:22ff Flesh Galatians 5:19ff
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control…” “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are (these): fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousies, wraths, factions, divisions, parties, envyings, drunkenness, revellings, and such like…”
9
The Spiritual Man Galatians 6:1 “Brethren, even if a man be overtaken in any trespass, ye who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to thyself, lest thou also be tempted.”
10
Verse 1 teaches the "spiritual" to try in the proper spirit to restore the one “overtaken in any trespass” by means of admonishing and teaching him. a. cf. 2 Timothy 4:1,2; Matthew 7:1-5. b. The saving of his soul, not restoring his physical health, is the thing emphasized!!! cf. James 5:19-20
11
Verse 2 “Bear ye one another’s burden’s” is directly related to verse 1 and to spiritual concerns, having reference to one "overtaken in a fault". a. One who is walking after the flesh, not to some physical burden. cf. Romans 15:1-3
12
Galatians 6:2 “Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”
Galatians 6:5 “For each man shall bear his own burden.”
13
Galatians 6:5 “For each man shall bear his own burden (phortion)”
Galatians 6:2 “Bear ye one another's burdens (baros), and so fulfil the law of Christ.” weight; in the N. T. only figuratively, a load, abundance, authority (Strong) Galatians 6:5 “For each man shall bear his own burden (phortion)” i.e. (figuratively) a task or service (Strong), load (Thayer) NT:5413 that which will be the result, at the judgment-seat of Christ, of each believer's work, Galatians 6:5. (Vine)
14
Definitions In 6:2 the word for burden is (báros), a burden or difficulty. Christians are being enjoined to help each other to be faithful! In 6:5 the word for burden is (phortíon), responsibility. Christians are told that each person must assume responsibility for his particular duties in life; they have no right to shirk their responsibilities or to expect others to perform them. (cf. The Complete Word Study Dictionary)
15
“Every Man Shall Bear His Own Burden” Galatians 6:5
Some Burdens Cannot Be Transferred. The Lord has given to each man his own work. (Mark 13:34; Galatians 6:4) Believe, Repent, Confess, Baptism. Be faithful. Answer in Judgment. (Romans 14:12; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Romans 2:16)
16
“Bear Ye One Another’s Burdens” Galatians 6:2
Some burdens are to be shared. Philippians 2:4; cf. 2:20; Romans 15:1 Context. Galatians 6:1 “Restore”– “to render (artios), i.e. fit, sound, complete. to mend (what has been broken or rent), to repair” Matthew 4:21 (Thayer) “In the spirit of gentleness” Philippians 2:3-4; cf. 2 Timothy 3:24
17
Verse 3 Pertains to a man's improper, inflated, deceptive evaluation of one's self!
Warning against self-righteousness and self-deception (cf. Romans 12:3), not to supplying physical needs of the body.
18
Cannot examine self by someone else. 2 Corinthians 10:12
Verse 4 Requires a "man" to test or prove his own work by the proper standard, the divine standard of God's word, and thus determine his consequent spiritual standing with God. 2 Corinthians 13:5 Cannot examine self by someone else. 2 Corinthians 10:12
19
Verse 5 Requires one's own personal burdens or obligations, his load which he himself is expected to bear. He cannot assign his responsibility to the church or someone else. Note again: Romans 14:12; 2 Corinthians 5:10.
20
Verse 6 …”Let him that is taught in the word…”
“Communicate unto him that teacheth… Identify IN CONTEXT: “Him that is taught” = “man.. overtaken in … trespass.” (One walking after the flesh) “Him that teacheth” = “spiritual” man (one walking by the Spirit) who is to restore his fallen brother.
21
Galatians 6:1 “Brethren, even if a man be overtaken in any trespass, ye who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” Restore who?
22
“Howbeit, let him who is being orally instructed in the word, have fellowship with him that is so instructing him, in all good things.” (Rotherham translation)
23
To make verse 6 apply to supplying the temporal needs of the teacher is entirely foreign to the course of thought and isolates the verse from the context on both sides of it.
24
Verse 6 "Communicate" in this verse has reference to holding fellowship with or partaking with, sharing with, not imparting to. (1) Greek koinoneo means “to enter into fellowship, join one's self as an associate, make one's self a sharer or partner.” (Thayer) (2) cf. Romans 15:27; 1 Timothy 5:22; Hebrews 2:14; 1 Peter 4:13; 2 John 11
25
Verse 6 “in all good things”
What things?
26
He changes the way he walks! 5:16, 25 NOTE THE CONTEXT!
The communicating in “all good things” of this verse is realized when the transgressor (one walking by the flesh) is taught and responds favorably to the teacher (one walking according to the Spirit). He makes right his wrongs and enters into a state of joint participation (FELLOWSHIP) with his teacher, “in all good things.” He changes the way he walks! 5:16, 25 NOTE THE CONTEXT!
27
Verses 7 - 8 The context continues to be the “spiritual” (one walking by the Spirit) and his responsibility to those who are "overcome in a fault" (one walking by the lust of the flesh).
28
Verses 7-8 Paul reminds them that they will reap what they sow NOTE the connection between verse 8 and the "works of the flesh" as well as "the fruit of the Spirit" of Galatians 5:19-25. Without a doubt these verses are dealing with spiritual matters: they warn of the grave danger of the one taught (one walking by the flesh) failing to communicate (have fellowship, share) with the teacher (one walking by the Spirit) in all good things.
29
Verses 7-8 “Good things. ” What good things. NOTE THE CONTEXT
Verses 7-8 “Good things.” What good things??? NOTE THE CONTEXT!!! Galatians 5:16-24 Characteristics of walking by the Spirit… “Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control….”
30
Verse 9 uses "us" and "we" in the same manner as Galatians 5:25-26 and literally means, "let each one of us" (individual). Writer not talking about churches. The responsibility of restoring the man "overtaken in a fault" (verse 1) and "sowing to the Spirit" (verse 8) is hard work in which we must not "grow weary" or "faint."
31
Verse 10 "So then…" introduces a concluding statement.
32
Verse 10 “opportunity” kairos This same word is translated "season" in verse 9. “opportune or seasonable time” Acts 24:25 (Thayer) Let us BE WORKING. There is a reaping time at the judgment; there is also a sowing time … a time for doing good; for sowing to the Spirit.
33
“Let us” “Ye who are spiritual” Verse 10 cf. verse 9 “As we”
Those walking by the Spirit. Those walking by the Spirit. “Ye who are spiritual”
34
Work spiritual good by teaching one how to “live by the Spirit”
Verse 10 Do what? “Work that which is good.” Paul is not talking about charity work, Work spiritual good by teaching one how to “live by the Spirit” “ To work, labor, do work: it is opposite to inactivity or idleness” (Thayer) Note: verse 9
35
Verse 10 "all men” pántas “Used of a certain definite totality or sum of things, the context showing what things are meant: Mark 4:34” (Thayer)
36
Verse 10 “all men” NT:3956 pas (pas); including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole: (Strong) Illustrations: All, everyone, no exclusions. Ephesians 1:3 “All spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” KJV All of a certain class or kind. Acts 2:45 “parted them to all.” Acts 4:32-34 “great grace was upon them all.”
37
Verse 10 “Especially” NT:3122 (malista) most of all, mostly, especially, above all There are 12 occurrences in the NT (none in the Gospels): Acts 20:38; 25:26; 26:3; Galatians 6:10; Philippians 4:22; 1 Timothy 4:10; 5:8,17; 2 Timothy 4:13; Titus 1:10; Philemon 16; 2 Peter 2:10 (from Exegetical Dictionary of the New Testament, Eerdmans Publishing Company. )
38
Verse 10 “household of the faith
Verse 10 “household of the faith.” NT:3609 (oikeios) belonging to the house; … members of the household “of family members, 1 Timothy 5:8; fig. of the Christian as "a member of the household of God" in Ephesians 2:19; of the "members of the household of faith" in Galatians 6:10. (from Exegetical Dictionary of the New Testament, Eerdmans Publishing Company. )
